Travelling is great. I love travelling don’t get me wrong but sometimes it’s good to just stay at home and with big occasions and historical events happening this year, London is more and more proving to be the place to be.

Olympics: Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of years, then you know that the Olympics are coming and there is no way of avoiding it. So instead enjoy it, raise a flag and be part of history as London host the 2012 Olympic Games. The last time they hosted the event was July 29 1948, so this year is sure to be a glorious event, so you can enjoy it now in your back garden.

Queen’s jubilee: 2012 marks 60 years of The Queen’s reign. The Queen came to the throne on 6th February 1952 and her coronation took place on 2 June 1953. So to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee, festivities will be taking place all across Britain. Centring around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th June, it promises to be lots of fun and a great opportunity to wave a flag and cheer nonstop.

Festivals here there and everywhere:  I love festivals, lord knows I love festivals and one thing Britain, and London in particular, has is festivals. There is one for every genre, sound and mix, so you can’t go wrong with choice, from Wireless, Lovebox and Hard Rock Calling.

Shopping, shopping and more shopping: Everyone knows, one thing London is never short with is the number of shops. From quiet little markets, hot spots like Camden, Covent Garden and Portobello, big superstores like Harrods, Selfridges, Westfield and Brent Cross or the classic favourite Oxford Street, you can shop till you drop all summer long.

Wimbledon: Simply tennis at its best, Wimbledon is one of the biggest, oldest and most prestigious events in the sporting industry. As the seasons change and as the sun comes out, you’ll know when it’s arrived. See some of the best tennis stars perform at centre stage, like Andy Murry, Serena Williams, Raferal Nadal and Roger Federer. With a long-running history, the Wimbledon championships have made London famous, giving many even more reasons to come, visit and stay.

Carnival: Come August, London has the great Notting Hill carnival that can at times best the some of the biggest carnivals in the world such as the huge Rio carnival. Notting Hill carnival hosts a wide range of colours, costumes, looks and unique dances. It is always sure to have the music blasting loud all over the event and across the streets of London.  Carnival can only be described as a few days of fun when London descends into club mayhem. As the sun comes out, Notting Hill Carnival takes over, proving why it’s one of the best places to be this summer.

Let’s go to the theatre: As a previous performing arts student, I am a big fan of the arts and feel that everyone should see it in action at one time or another. In London, there is so much theatre culture to go around, which is why it is the perfect opportunity to take a trip to the theatre. There is so much to choose from whether it be Lion king and Shrek to Chicago and We Will Rock You. So with a vast number of choice, check out the many thrilling theatres around London. Trust me you won’t regret it.

Attractions and landmarks: As the capital of Britain, London is known and associated with many things, from Big Ben and the London Eye to Buckingham Palace and the House of Commons. These landmarks define London in many ways. They are not hard to find but are priceless to see.

Bask in London culture: There are lots to do in London. Art, exhibitions, shops, festivals, we’ve got it all and most of the time you don’t even have to go far to experience it up close.

It’s free: All above all it’s free to stay at home, why spends thousands on a holiday away when you can enjoy yourselves by staying right here.

I know I must sound like a bit of a travel agent throughout this article but bear with me. You can live in London for many years and still discover new things, areas and hidden treasures on a daily basis. So this summer stay in London and enjoy its distinctive beauty in all its glory.
