Baby Isako talks about Love is a Losing Game part 2

LIALGBaby Isako is the playwright and director behind the critically acclaimed play ‘Love is A Losing Game’,  based on a group of friends in their final year of university. The Flavour team were hooked first time around and now she is gearing up for part two of the saga. This play is guaranteed to be a sell out so get your tickets now. Here’s what the talented lady had to say.

What inspired your passion for writing plays?
I started writing from a young age; it began with songs then went on to poems. I did performance poetry writing was therapy to me it was being able to express your emotions. My love of writing, reading and theatre combined together helped me realize that I actually have a talent for writing Plays and its grown from there.

Why did you decide to do a part 2 of the play?
I must tell you I had no original plans to do part 2, but everyone who watched the play were telling me I couldn’t end it like that. I realized I could take the story further so I decided to write.

Could you sum up your new play for us?
The new play is a bit different to the 1st one; part 1 was very comical and light hearted. Part 2 is a lot deeper we start finding out more about the characters it has more depth it’s more powerful. The actors have also pushed themselves in their acting ability.

Are you using the same cast?
Most of the cast from part 1 are in part 2, I’m also introducing new characters who have their own stories. I think when doing a sequel it’s important to keep it fresh adding new twist to keep the audience interest

How has part 2 moved on from the first?
There is more drama, you see the changes within the characters for example Ty was the sweet innocent guy but because of the way he was treated he is now this bad guy. Treating females with no respect its true what they say it takes one girl to turn a good guy bad. I believe the audience may have a change perception for some of the characters they hated in part 1 because you learn about them.

What are your funniest and worst experiences in the creative process of writing your plays?
My funniest moments in writing is when I sit back and read certain lines, I always laugh to myself and say “these characters are so much trouble” sometimes I even act the scenes out in front of my mirror to see if its realistic. My worst experience is writing something I’ve gone through cause I have to take myself back to that to get raw emotions and sometimes that’s a painful experience.

Which three famous people would you like to feature in a future play of yours?
One women I would really like to feature in my play is kimberly elise, she so versatile and always has powerful performance. From the ditch diggers daughters (a film many wont know) to her recent roles she never fails to impress me and I believe she don’t get much recognition for her acting.Secondly Johnny Depp he always makes you forget his just acting he makes every character believable.
Thirdly Maya Angelou reading her books inspired me a lot she has a way of getting peoples attention

Are there any dreams or goals that you would like to fulfill?
I would like to make one of my plays into a tv show I believe it will work. When I look on tv I don’t see anyone who represents me. I have been approached but I believe it will happen in God timing.

What is the best book or books you have read and why?
I recently finished reading the book The Help by Kathryn stockett there was something so amazing about the relationships the maids had during period of racism in America. A sense of unity at times I felt to cry and other times I would laugh. A good story would take you on a journey emotionally. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is also an amazing book it gets you to challenge yourself in doing something different, taking risks going on adventure. Lastly a good book I read recently was Pam Grier’s memoir My Life in Three Acts where she talks about her raise to fame theirs a lot to learn but one thing I got from it is that to get anywhere in life you must be a risk taker.

Tell us three interesting facts about yourself?
    1. I Am Obsessed With history a lot of people don’t know this, I can spend hours and hours in front of my pc watching YouTube documentary on historical things or watch the history channel. Knowledge is a very powerful thing
    2. I once won 1st place at cake eating competition lol
    3. I once watched every movie in the cinemas within a 2 day period

My writing style can be described as…raw and honest

Tell me about your writing process.
I usually write whilst listening to music, I must creative the scene in my mind first and see it played out before I even put anything on paper.

There isn’t a particular way I write I could be walking to the shops and something may pop to mind, a creative thought a memory I decide to go with it and quickly add it in. Sometimes I’m sitting in total silence and just type away. I believe everyone has a different way of writing but I can tell you this the best time to write is when you’re, angry, upset or really happy because that is raw emotions
