Whether you’re at work or studying as well as trying to make time to see friends and family the toils of life have a habit of taking its toll, so it’s good to take a break from reality and relax and rejuvenate. I decided to  do that recently with a girl friend, so we hoped in a car to to escape the hustle and bustle of London and we discovered the perfect place.

If you crave pampering in plush surroundings then Macdonald Berystede is the place for you. Located in Ascot, as you drive up the country lane you arrive and drive through impossing black gates and are met by impressive and well maintained grounds and a grand red brick and white painted Victorian looking building which is the hotel. There didn’t seem like there were many options for parking near the entrance of the hotel but luckily someone was leaving as we required a space.

Checking in at reception was quick and smooth and we were directed to our bedroom where we threw down our bags and then made our way to the spa as we had treatments booked to kickstart our night of relaxation. Supplied with a robe, towel and slippers from the spa reception I opted for a 30 minute Elemis Facial whilst my friend had a 30-minute back and shoulder massage. They have lots of affordable treatments on offer and we both left our respective pamper rooms feeling extremely refreshed.

Once your treatments are finished you can either chill in the relaxation room or enter the wet area. The pool overlooks their hotels beautiful green landscape with huge trees, with birds singing that makes it feel as if you are in a Canadian forest. You can sit outside in their hot pool and breathe in the fresh air no matter what the temprature is outside.

As the afternoon turned into evening we continued to drfit in and out of the steam, sauna and other rooms in the thermal suites before making our way back to our room to change for dinner. There are lockers in the changing area, cream, hair dryers and cotton wool if you would like to shower and get dressed in there.

In the evening we dined at their chic Hyperion restaurant. The service was exceptional, no task was too big or small for our friendly waiter and the cocktails and the food were delicious. We’d orderd room service earlier on before dinner as we’d be left famished by the journey there and the spa so by the end of the evening we were stuffed and fell asleep quickly in their soft double bed in the plush warm room.

In the morning we woke up and used the gym – if you check the timetable they also have a few classes – and then enjoyed our last few hours of luxury in the wet area.  Once dressed for breakfast  we would have liked to have sat outside on their terrace, however it was raining. Despite the bad weather the cheery chef that cooked my vegetable omlette and the varied choice of hot and cold breakfast food options (as I love to eat!), certainly put a smile on my face.

One night wasn’t long enough to soak up the opulence, to relax fully and make time to explore the area, but maybe that’s a good thing because I have been kept wanting more.
