Come mid-November every eating establishment begin to introduce their repetitive festive menus which means turkey, turkey and more turkey. This inevitable turkey-overload usually results in me dreading the sight of my Christmas dinner come December 25th.

So you can imagine my relief when I heard about The Red Lemon in Notting Hill dishing up a Reindeer burger for it’s customers wanting something a bit different this Christmas. Needless to say I went down to check it out as part of a turkey-dodging mission…

Positioned just minutes from the world famous Portobello Market sit’s the cosy Red Lemon. Traditional interior, a warm fire and friendly staff ensure our visit gets off to the best possible start. From the nicely sized list of starters the spiced Crab on toast with a fennel salsa took my eye whilst my guest opted for a Pork and Stilton pate. Both were delicious and the crab tasted extremely fresh.

It was then time for the main event, the reason I had came here… the reindeer burger! This festive treat comprises of deer (venison meet from a local butchers,) hot breaded Camembert, sweet-cured bacon and cranberry sauce served up with black lava salted chips – no turkey in sight!

My first opinion was wow, the intriguing concoction of ingredients was incredible. I am not a huge cranberry sauce fan but the sharp sweetness it delivers in stark contrast to the Camembert is tongue tingling! The venison patty is large and juicy whilst the chips make a perfect accompaniment. I do have one slight word of warning; these burgers are huge so have a light breakfast as you save yourself for this festive mega treat!

For something different get yourselves down to The Red Lemon in Notting Hill for a delicious Turkey alternative this Christmas!
