Lev the singer songwriter from Texas is an artist who needs to be firmly on your musical radar bringing a sound best described as electro.

We have the premiere of Lev’s new video ‘Never Let You Go’ right here on Flavourmag.

The singer songwriter has steadily made a name for herself in the States particularly after her SXSW performance. The up and coming release of her cover of the classic Verve track Bitter Sweet Symphony should in turn be the perfect introduction to make her a name on our shores. Covers of classics are always difficult but Lev’s take on the classic is effortlessly and is the perfect taster for her ep Fear No Evil which as she states shows a ‘darker side’ to her song-writing.

With that introduction let’s get a word with the Dallas based beauty! First Lev a little history on your musical journey?

This journey has been a long road for me. Leaving the voice of self doubt along the way, and just really coming out from behind my own shadow and going for my dreams has been a big, crazy, and fun adventure. I feel so lucky to even be on this journey doing what I love.

And a little history on your discography to date excluding your current ep?

This is my first EP as LEV. I’ve been singing for years, actually recorded a country rock pop EP, back in my early twenties. I wasn’t really into country music at the time so I didn’t release that EP.

So let’s chat about your performance at SXSW congrats that must have been amazing?

SXSW was amazing!! A year ago SX was on my mini bucket list to play, and when I found out I was playing there I was so excited. The crowds were killer, full of energy and so receptive and accepting to my sound. So I got to cross that one off my bucket list 🙂

Were you nervous?

You know honestly, not really. I felt very comfortable. It was more adrenaline than nerves for me. At the last show I actually played, two of the Hanson brothers stayed to watch my show, and I had some little butterflies, I mean since I had a poster of them hanging on my wall as an early teen, and knew every word to MMMMBOP… who didn’t huh but I got up there and had a blast?

So Bitter Sweet Symphony a cover of Verve’s classic-big challenge what was that like and indeed why that choice?

That was such a blast to record and sing. It was super cool hearing it in “LEV Style”. That song has been one of my absolute favorites since it came out back in the 90s. The lyrics to that song get me every time I perform it. It’s such a deeply honest song and proclamation. My favorite line is ‘Trying to make ends meet your a slave to money then you die’. WOW that lyric is so powerful and true to me. And at one time in my life I found myself being a slave to money, and not pursuing my passion and dreams because of it. I didn’t want to wake up one day only to realise, I was a slave to it and then you die- for me this song hits home in a lot of ways.

And the EP Fear No Evil-press states a merge between Fleetwood Mac an the 80’s-wow explain?

Well first of all who doesn’t love Fleetwood Mac?! I love them because I’m so very into harmonies and melodies, so I wanted to incorporate lots of my own harmonies and background vocals into all of my songs and Fleetwood Mac is the perfect example of a blended harmonic group. The 80’s… I just love love the synths and 80’s guitar sounds. I love the music from the 70s, 80s & 90s that bring back good memories and make you recall certain times in your life as a kid when you felt alive and inspired.

Press says you are in it for the long haul-what does Lev’s journey look like 5 years from now?

By then I will have toured the UK, It’s a dream of mine to tour there, see the culture and meet as many people there as I can. Also, to have toured all of the US. Released 3 or 4 more albums, hopefully have reached a big following and actually get to meet fans, collaborate with people. Played Coachella 🙂 I want to get into fashion outlets and I want to act on screen. So those are my dreams and plans for my journey 🙂

Lastly what’s the plans for 2016?

Start touring, and introducing myself as LEV to everyone. Create a badass show and have fun while doing it. I want to get out there and go!
