You might have suspicions that your partner is planning to pop the question or perhaps you just want to get away from it all for the weekend with the one you love – a romantic holiday is a good idea any time of year. That’s why we have come up with a quick guide to some of the most romantic holiday destinations for you to whisk your other half away to (or hint heavily that you want to go there).

  1. Madeira

The island of Madeira in Portugal, is an ideal getaway destination for lovers. It’s the perfect place to watch the sun setting over the ocean, hand in hand with your partner, or take a cable car up to Monte and enjoy the fantastic views from the top of the hill overlooking the coast. If you enjoy your stay so much and decide to look for something a little more permanent, then speak to Portugal Property about investing in a villa, which you and your partner can escape to throughout the year.

Best time to visit: Early July, just before the summer holidays, so it is quiet but a comfortable temperature.

  1. Sherwood Forest

If you’re looking for something a little closer to home and nature, then a weekend break in the ancient Sherwood Forest, in Nottingham, will have you and your partner enjoying long, winding walks hand in hand, taking a dip in a hot tub with a glass of champagne or hiring bicycles and heading out to explore. You won’t be guaranteed sunny, romantic weather necessarily but if the skies are grey it just gives you the perfect opportunity to snuggle away inside. Check out Forest Holidays for some great deals.

Best time to visit: Late September, the weather might be cooler but you can take full advantage of the outdoor hot tub, enjoy the crisp evening air and colours of Autumn from your balcony.

  1. Margarita Island

If you and your partner enjoy more of a Caribbean party lifestyle then a romantic trip to Margarita Island, just 25 miles off the coast of Venezuela, should be on the cards. Featuring idyllic sandy beaches, mangrove filled lagoons and tranquil spots in the sea to snap on some goggles and a snorkel and go diving, Margarita Island is the place for the adventurous pair who enjoy getting the most out of life.

Best time to visit: Venezuela enjoys warm temperatures all year round but September is its warmest month, so if you’re looking to tan book a visit then.

  1. Paris

It’s called the city of romance for a reason and is the perfect location for a whirlwind romantic getaway. The city has become quite heavily tourist orientated so you could try to escape the main spots and look for some different experiences. Plan a picnic by the River Seine with a bottle of wine, a delicious baguette and French cheese or book a place on an intimate champagne filled car tour of the city at night, with a real Parisian local, through Cedric’s Paris.

Best time to visit: Autumn is the ideal time to visit, with less tourists and cooler weather you can stroll around the back streets wrapped up against the crisp evening air before venturing inside to warm up with a bottle of wine – or two.

  1. New York

Have you ever wondered why so many romantic movies are set in New York? When Harry met Sally, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Sex & the City, Runaway Bride…the list goes on. Well it’s probably because the city’s sprawling urban mazes offer the opportunity for people to meet from all walks of life and that New York is the perfect setting for those chance encounters, romantic walks and meetings in Times Square.

You and your partner could relive those moments, taking in the hustle and bustle of the big city and spending the night in a luxury hotel suite with a bottle of champagne on ice, after a visit to a headline theatre show.

Best time to visit: With recent snowstorms and icy weather between November to March in recent years we suggest paying a visit to the Big Apple in the summer months.

Wherever you plan to spend your trip away, whether it’s one of the destinations suggested or somewhere different, be sure to enjoy some time alone to fall deeper in love in the perfect setting.
