The most unconventional Santa in cinema history is suiting up again. David Harbour returns as the fist-swinging, mercenary-crushing Father Christmas in Violent Night 2, and this time he’s dragging Mrs. Claus into the chaos. The teaser trailer below gives a first glimpse of what’s shaping up to be another sledgehammer of festive brutality when it hits UK cinemas on 4 December.
From Hostage Rescue to Mall Justice
The 2022 original was a bare-knuckle shock to the Christmas film canon: a cynical, combat-trained Santa taking down a team of mercenaries to save a hostage family. Now, Tommy Wirkola’s sequel shifts the battlefield to Silver Bell Mall, where a ruthless gangster played by Jared Harris is terrorising local merchants. Santa’s there to dish out justice—except this time, something’s off. He’s forgotten the true meaning of Christmas, his magic’s drained, and he’s running out of time.
Enter Kristen Bell as Mrs. Claus, the last-minute reinforcement no villain wants to face. The cast rounds out with Emmy-winning Joe Pantoliano, Daniela Melchior (who stole scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Andrew Bachelor, and AEW wrestler Maxwell Friedman. Returning director Wirkola reteams with producers David Leitch and Kelly McCormick of 87North, the action powerhouse behind Bullet Train, John Wick, and The Fall Guy.
High Jinks and Higher Stakes
The original’s cocktail of dark humour, visceral action, and oddly sincere heart caught audiences off guard—this sequel looks to double down on all three. Screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller are back, which suggests the same twisted sensibility that made the first film sing (or sleigh). Whether Harbour’s Santa can rediscover his faith in goodness while punching his way through mall security is the central tension, and judging by the trailer, it’s going to be a bloody road to redemption.
