Agent Provocateur has handed Emily Atack a stately home, a riding crop and a John Deere tractor, and the result is the most gleefully British thing the label has done in years.
Atack stars as The Duchess, photographed by Claire Rothstein under creative director Sarah Shotton with styling by Karen Langley. It was shot at Camfield Place in Hertfordshire, and the reference point is late-1980s countryside living at its most indulgent. “It could only ever have been Emily for the campaign,” Shotton says. “We’re about as fabulously British as they get.”
The styling commits completely. There is sheer lace and suspenders in the drawing room, the Lilathe corset worn with opera gloves and a crop in the red room, and a maid’s outfit played entirely straight beneath the family portraits.
The pieces themselves are the usual Agent Provocateur balance of hardware and delicacy. The Mercy corset introduces the label’s new shade, the Veretie babydoll is sheer white worn with riding boots, and the Vitoria basque takes the campaign’s best photograph, shot on the back of a tractor after dark.
