Nike’s autumn has a British face on it. Keely Hodgkinson, Olympic 800m champion, got her first signature collection in July, and it is the piece of the season’s running kit worth knowing about before the Pegasus Plus 2 and the World Cup noise take over.
The collection is black with gold accents and detachable “KH” charms, across an AeroSwift pocket crop top and 5-inch tight short in Dri-FIT ADV, and a Nike Pro Sculpt long-sleeve top and short with tonal graphics and a satin Swoosh. The footwear is the serious part: the Vomero Plus on full-length ZoomX foam, the Pegasus 42, the carbon-plated Vaporfly 4 and the Victory 2 spike, all in the same black and gold. “Having my own Nike collection is a dream come true,” she said at launch on 16 July. It went global on nike.com and select retailers the same day.
Since then the running line has moved on again. The Pegasus Plus 2, out since late August, is a tempo trainer with an exposed Air Zoom unit in the forefoot and a ZoomX midsole that Nike says returns 18 per cent more energy than the original Plus, tested on more than 30 of its athletes. “Our goal was simple: speed without sacrifice,” says Deepa Ramprasad, who runs Nike’s running footwear. September also brings the NFL Air Max 90 Rivalries collection, and in the background the World Cup campaign, Rip the Script, is still doing the rounds with Kim Kardashian, LeBron James, Ted Lasso, Ronaldo, Mbappé and Haaland in the same six minutes.
