Keeping us satisfied at the close of 2011 was of course a great festive installment of Love Lounge. So as I settled into my seat at the bar, I found myself wondering whether 23 year old founder Jeffery Antwi had any plans to bottle his brilliant event concoction, for daily consumption… A dose of LL joy a day will surely keep the doctor away!

The night was an overall success; with the host Funmbi The Comedian doing well to keep the growing crowd engaged as the venue impressively became full to capacity. After a short introductory set, Funmbi welcomed a confident young comic called Kae Kurd to the stage. Full of hilariously accurate impressions, Kae did take a little while to warm the crowd but once he had, they were in the palm of his hand. For first musical injection we were treated to female vocalist Justine Whyte. Her first track ‘Falling From Love’ passed for me without much occasion, however the next song ‘Fading’ was very relatable and she sang about that feeling of admiration we can often experience of someone from afar. Her final song was a great up-tempo track, with a surprising mid-section nod to Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, which definitely stood out.

My favourite comedian of the night was Dee Kartier from Uganda who had everyone tickled with his blend of jokes and physical comedy. The entire room roared with laughter as he acted out a skit about his relation with his mother, and the audience was lively and primed for the next section – the Azonto Dance Competition. A few brave members of the audience were confident enough to display their Azonto dance skills, however questionable, on stage and the two lucky winners were given a relaxing spa prize to enjoy.

Getting us all laughing before he had even opened his mouth, A Dot was next and bounded on to the stage in his usual way ready to poke at our funny bones. Never disappointing, he delivered some funny, even if slightly predictable, jokes however one particular tale involving a ‘crushed baby skull’ did get everyone stirring. Following on from A Dot, was a young male artist called Brewer whose performance was received well during his performance and also after the show. Kano was so impressed after video a video of the event, that he took to Twitter to show his love for Brewer’s rendition of his track ‘E.T’.

The next section of the show was an interview with Young Apprentice competitor, Gbemi Okunlola. Now i must admit when I saw that this interview would be part of the show, I thought that it would definitely be a stand out… disaster. Thankfully however, once this ambitious young lady got on stage I was pleasantly surprised. A cleverly engaging addition to the show, 17 year old Gbemi gave a real insight into her experience of the show. She revealed, ‘The boardroom is not as tense as you see on TV’ and when asked what Lord Alan Sugar was like in real life, she explained, ‘When he was our age he always wanted to be where we are now, so he is very understanding and open minded’. I was very impressed to hear also that as a fashion enthusiast she had also designed and made her outfit that evening.

Back to the music and the final singer, Khalaeliah brought back the festive feeling with her version of ‘Silent Night’. I enjoyed her sound and definitely think that a little more emotion in her performance for her track which asked, ‘Why don’t u hate me to my face?’ would have nailed it. Rounding off a great night Chaleboy The Poet made a brief poetical appearance and there was love all round as members of the Love Lounge team gathered around founder Jeffery, to congratulate him on two years of Love Lounge events and counting.
