denise flavourStylist and designer Denise Brown has worked with the likes of Kanye West, Rhianna, Cassie, T I, The Micthell Brothers, Sway and Solomon Kalou here she gives you the 411 on how you can get a career like hers.

How did you get into your current role?
I graduated from London College of Fashion, then went to assist freelance fashion stylists and did work experience for magazines for a few years and built my contacts and it all took off from there.

Talk us through a day in your life at work:
I would get either a phone call or email from people normally word of mouth. I’ll arrange to meet up with them to discuss the looks, theme, fees, once that’s done I’ll contact PR companies, designers to make an appointment to view and pick out clothes. If I have trust them and have no time I’ll email the brief and they will send the clothes to me.

What skills do you need to do your job?
You need a passion for fashion; to be able to style different types of people, good people’s skills and patience.

What qualifications do you need?
You can study a photographer and styling course for two years at The London College of Fashion.

What’s the best thing about your job?
I love meeting people and creating and image for them and seeing them happy at the end of it.

What’s the worst thing about your job?
I hate when you work with certain people and they are unnecessarily rude to you on the shoot and give you and hard time for no reason.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Styling New Era clothing campaign, Giving Ironik that red PVC jacket that was advertised in so many magazine’s. Designing a simple logo t-shirt line with so much press and having Mariah Carey wearing it.

What advice can you give someone wanting to do your job?
Do free work experience for a magazine, try and get a retail job to work with all different types of people and dress them.
