The Trinity Band, a five-piece band from Derby were the winners of Live and Unsigned 2011 held at The IndigO2 last Saturday.

The band which consists of rapper Rukus, singer Dwaine Hayden, keyboard player Craig Dawkins, drummer James Dawkins and bassist Pete Sharpe shone on stage with their immense energy, great vocals and fantastic musicians who performed over a mixture of rock, soul, r ‘n’ b and hip hop.

Over 75 acts took part in the Live and unsigned grand final but there could only be one over winner and The Trinity Band impressed the judges which consisted of Radio 1 presenter Tom Deacon, Kerrang’s Alex Baker, Bez from the Happy Mondays, Head of BGM Music Michael King, Future Music’s Chris Grayston and Ben Price and Flavour Magazine’s very own Editor in Chief Annika Allen.

As the audience waited in anticipation for the results to be read out they were treated to performances by Nate Young, NVS and Open Mic UK winner Hatty Keane.

The group’s journey started six years ago when cousins Craig and James met founding member Rukus at a church workshop. The group perform tracks that contain positive message and uplifting vibes. As part of their prize for winning the group will receive the following:

  • Management and recording contract with Future Music Management
  • Initial winner’s development package includes £15,000 publicity investment
  • Further up to £15,000 towards a single release package including; Studio time for
  • single release and promotional campaign.
  • UK tour of up to 100 shows including covering expenses up to £7,500
  • A comprehensive consultation package (implementation where applicable) including– social marketing, image, brand.

Other stand out artists on the night was 16-year-old Luke Burr who played the piano and sounded like a young John Legend and Lucy Spraggon who could only be described as a female version of Ed Sheeran.
