A long time marriage finds it as a way to liven the bond of union. A budding relationship embraces it to set the precedence for an otherwise doomed-to-fail venture. The wanting celebrity employs it in order to stave off the eventuality of complete irrelevancy. And the struggling actress sees it as her thrust into the limelight. Whatever the reason, the filming of ones most carnal moments has been a fascination amongst humans ever since the ability to do so was realized. But since the latter half of this recent generation, said fascination has turned into somewhat of a trend.

The list of reasons why “leaked” sex tapes are increasingly becoming more and more popular are rather obvious. From the innate curiosity of a person to know what is going on behind the doors of those living around them, to the desire to demonise those whom the world has seen fit to place on a pedestal. Yet, the running debate is whether the benefits of these tapes to the owners outweigh the detriments, or vice versa. And really so far the argument seems to remain shifting toward either side, depending on the perspective of the person speaking. One side may say it is an outright slap to the morality of a community. Or an embarrassment to a gender or race. Whilst another side may boast that it’s an effective way to express ones personal freedoms, or a swift way to get ahead in a rather tolerant world. To be sure though, that debate, like most that have to do with how one expresses ones freedoms, can carry on unhalted.

And sure, “sex tape” has been synonymous with names such as Kim Kardashian (West), Paris Hilton, and most recently Iggy Azalea. But lest we forget the more infamous (or famous) pioneers of the trend. Some of which have had their careers and reputations DESTROYED by such an undertaking, while others have been sprung into fame (though not mainstream). Consider the following list, which I assure you isn’t all comprehensive, but may actually surprise you..

* Princess Margaret and John Bindon

* Colin Farrell and Nicole Narain

* Rob Lowe

* John Leslie and Abi Titmus

* Hulk Hogan and Heather Clem Cole

* Chelsea Handler

* Tonya Harding and Jeff Gillooly

* Dustin Diamond (“Screech” from Saved by the Bell)

* Montana Fishburne (Laurence Fishburne’s daughter)

* Tulisa Contostavios and Justin Edwards aka MC Ultra

* Dane Bowers from Another Level

* And the many usual suspects you have come to know and love (or hate)

And so on and so on. Whether the media will ever grow weary of exploiting such ventures may never be seen. But as technology advances, you can be sure that the “leaking” and perception of a sex tape will continue to change.
