Fe-Nix – Girl Power

Fe-Nix are the feisty new girl group on the urban music scene, bringing a fresh genre of urban inner city dance music, often better known as dirty pop; think somewhere along the lines of Mysteeq and Pussy Cat Dolls, but with slightly more of a dance feel and you’re maybe close. Hoping to inject a bit of girl power back into the music industry, Jade, Ayshen, Tanya and Sian are all very confident in their ability to rise to the top of the charts, hence the name Fe-Nix (a mythical bird that rises from the ashes).

The four London-born girls hope to give a voice to a new generation of young, sexy, sassy and self-determined women, but not only will they appeal to the ladies, I am pretty confident the guys will take a liking to the them too. Stating that their music has so many different feels to it, the girls are sure they can appeal to the vast majority of people. ‘Because our music has so many different influences, people will be able to identify with something they like in one way or another,’ says Sian, the more outspoken of the group.

Diverse influences
With musical influences spanning from the king of pop Michael Jackson to Reggae legend Bob Marley to R ‘n’ B songstress Alicia Keys, Fe-Nix really are quite a diverse mix. Just from looking at the girls, I am intrigued to find out their cultural backgrounds, as each of them is fairly bronze in complexion. I am informed that Sian is half Jamaican and half English, Ayshen is Turkish, Tanya’s parents are Indian and Irish and Jade is half Arabic and half English. ‘We are ready to make a new stamp,’ declares Sian, as Tanya continues ‘we have a different look, which is strong and we are generally different and cannot be compared to anything out there.’

Reaching for fame
Although only forming little under a year ago, it seems that not all the members of the group are complete newcomers to the music game. ‘Sian and I met through dancing together, attending performing arts college and generally just being on the scene,’ says youngest group member Jade who fought off tough competition from thousands of entrants and won Trouble TV’s reality show Bump ‘n’ Grind last year. It was through a rigorous audition process that the other two group members, Ayshen and Tanya were finally discovered.

Signed to independent label, Genetic Records, which is home of Big Brovaz and Dance act Booty Luv, Fe-Nix are hoping to be the next big name in the industry. ‘It would be nice to one day be as big as the Spice Girls, minus the platform shoes,’ Tanya says, as the other group members nod excitedly. ‘We just want to be successful as a girl group and inspire other people to follow their dreams,’ she continues. There is no disputing that this sexy foursome has the image factor certified, with their extremely glamorous look, but the big question is will their musical talents measure up?
