With that deep resonate voice Fem Fel is a distinctive emcee who is certainly one of the more established names of the UK rap scene having worked with some of the biggest names the scene has produced.

Fresh for the end of the year he drops his latest offering with the awkwardly named 5 track ep < o (Left of Center) which incidentally when in at number 1 on the i Tunes Charts. It’s a brooding sounding project that sits somewhere between dub-step, grime, old skool hip-hop and rave influenced rolling drum beats as heard on Massive which grows on you insidiously while cajoling you to pull out ya whistle! At times the EP is rather experimental (not a bad thing); James Brown off the EP, is stripped down to a heavy bass line and Fem Fel dropping his verses-not a favourite personally.

By the same token, Over takes the same format as the previously mentioned track to a degree. It is a rather stripped down track but the bass here is produced by the double bass which just adds a whole different dimension, occasional tinkling from a classic  piano takes it into a jazz vibe while Fem Fel and Fiona Bevan add the vocal magic-like this track that reminds me very much of that old skool hip-hop flex

As a whole body of work from Fem Fel it is not my favourite work but assuming this is the precursor to a bigger newer body of work there is enough on the ep to build a good degree of anticipation.

Fem Fel can be called somewhat of a veteran of this UK ‘rap’ thing  where emcees are two a penny. Significantly he is a class act with one of the most distinctive voices in the UK scene-Fem Fel felling dem!
