On a recent to Germany and Italy, we fell in love with the Huawei P20 Pro, while munching on Naples finest pizza’s, sailing on yachts and flying in helicopters over the Amalfi Coast.

But before you read more… Take a look at this stunning gallery of images taken by Alex Lambrecht‘s using the Huawei P20 Pro on our Journey. After looking at the images, the rest of the article will fall into place and you can then compare the difference between a professional photographer and my photos…

*All photos in the article were taken on our Huawei P20 Pro*

Our trip started at the Leica HQ in Germany as Huawei has teamed up with lens and camera manufacturer Leica. For those of you reading this article that isn’t photographers, Leica to cameras is like Ferrari to cars, (metaphorically speaking). To find out more about Leica, visit their website. So what happens when you put a Leica lens in a Huawei Phone? You get this best quality photo’s that any current phone has to offer.

We visited the Leica HQ in Germany to get an overview of the Leica timeline, how it all started, where they are headed, as well as the ups and downs of their one-hundred and four-year company lifespan. As a regular consumer, this may not mean much to you, but if you were a photographer, this is the equivalent of bringing a child to Disney land (metaphorically speaking again lol).

With it’s vast and significant history in manufacturing camera and lenses, it makes perfect sense why Huawei would join forces with Leica to create a smartphone that is almost as powerful as a Digital SLR.

But why did with fall in love with the Huawei P20 Pro? Here’s why. The camera, the settings, the filters, the usability and so much more. The Huawei P20 Pro is now our phone of choice and if you love taking photos, selfies, videos, slow-mo, then you will love the Huawei P20 Pro.

Italy to Naples and beyond, plus a masterclass of masterclasses

From Germany, we boarded a private flight (where The App Whisperer caught me sleeping on the flight click and scroll down lol) to Naples and this is where the magic happened. We visited the streets of Naples, the beautiful Amalfi Coast and roamed the colourful streets of Sorrento, armed with nothing but our Huawei P20 Pro. We went on a photo journey of exploration using nothing but our Huawei P20 Pro to take photos.

During our trip and excursions, we had a fantastic masterclass from Leica signed photographer Alex Lambrechts. The man is a genius when it comes to photography, he armed us with tips and tricks on how to get the best photos from our Huawei P20 Pro. Add to this his absolutely stunning wife and partner Jazmine Brunner who was our featured model through-out the trip and we ended up with amazing smartphone beating photo’s that will make you drool.

The goal of the trip was to demonstrate that thanks to the Huawei P20 Pro, you no longer need a DSLR to take professional grade photographs on land, sea or air!

Some professional photographers may disagree with my next statement, but the Huawei P20 Pro is almost, if not as good as DSLR (I can hear the professional photographers screaming blasphemy right now) and for the average consumer, such as myself, it’s simply a godsend.

Plus if you’re the type of person that doesn’t know much about aperture, f-stop, or all the other settings that come with a DSLR, you need not fear as you can simply put the Huawei P20 Pro into AI mode and let the phone to all the work for you.

Point the camera at food and the AI will detect the fact that you are taking a food picture and adjust the settings accordingly for you. You’ll see a little pop up stating ‘FOOD’ as the camera focusing on your next instagrammable plate. Point the camera to the sky and again the Huawei P20 Pro will adjust its settings for you. It’s simply genius.

Day 2: Pompeii

Our first day consisted of a trip to Pompeii, with a guided tour and masterclass from Alex on moving people, low light, macro and the archaeological Roman streets…

Day 3: Amalfi Coast. Experience Capri boat tour trip

Day 3 was without a doubt the lushest day of the trip… The boat ride was insane. More masterclasses with Alex, popping bottles while sailing down the Amalfi Coast, more photo shoots with Jazmine, then delicious pizzas and wine. We seriously didn’t want the day to end… Plus this is the moment I captured some of the other people on our trip such as Claire Luxton and Elena Sandor.

Day 4: Amalfi Ravello, Positano helicopter tour from Sorrento and street challenge

The third and final day was the ultimate landscape photography day. Capturing photos over Sorrento and experiencing this beautiful coastline via helicopter. We also had a chance to take some stunning street photography of moving people and a range of beautiful images of Jazmine with an Alfa Romeo 60s Spider.

The moment I got a chance to pose with Jazmine… Love this photo lol.

You’ve got to admit, the Huawei P20 Pro is pretty spectacular, right? Dam, straight! But wait, there’s more… Take a look at the Huawei Mate 20 Pro too!
