Dublin based singer-songwriter Lisa Keane drops her new single ‘Love Me’
Inspired by icons such as Taylor Swift, Maggie Rogers and, HAIM, With raw lyrics and sweet vocals, Lisa doesn’t confine herself to one genre.
‘Love Me’ explores the uncertainty and risk involved with falling in love which is something we all experience.
I chatted to Lisa about her new single, the Irish music scene and why Taylor Swift would be her dream artist to support on tour.
How did you first get started in music? Was there one moment where you knew this was something you wanted to pursue?
I have always loved music and singing since a young age. As a kid, I would put on home concerts for my family and make them listen to me singing and dancing for hours. I began songwriting around the age of 13 after my parents brought me to a recording studio to record a cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘White Horse’ for my birthday. At the studio, I learnt about a music course they run focused on songwriting and live performance for teens. Taking part in this course really sparked my interest in songwriting and performing. I actually went on to study songwriting at BIMM Dublin.
Tell us about your new track ‘Love Me’. What Inspired It?
‘Love Me’ explores the uncertainty and risk involved with falling in love. It’s actually a song I don’t fully remember writing because it all came together so quickly. I wrote it about 2 years ago and I’ve been looking forward to the release since. I think it’s definitely one of my more pop sounding songs.
What’s your songwriting process like? Do you do anything to get into the zone?
Sometimes I’ll just sit down and start playing some chords on the piano or guitar and the melody or lyrics will come to me. Other times, I start with a particular lyric that has come into my head or that I’ve jotted down in my notes app and take it from there. I think having different ways of writing songs, allows me to explore different styles and genres and I’m not confined to a particular sound.
Do you think your hometown has an impact on the music you create?
I think growing up in Dublin definitely impacted the music I create. The city is incredible for music. There are so many musicians here that inspire me and there’s always a gig to go to or new music to listen to from local artists.
Who would be your dream collaboration?
I would absolutely love to collaborate with Taylor Swift or Maggie Rogers.
If you could support one person on tour, who would it be and why?
Definitely Taylor Swift. She is a huge inspiration to me and her tours are always amazing!
What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m actually really shy in person! But as they say ‘fake it til you make it’.
What would be the theme tune to your life?
I don’t know if I could pick just one haha! I’m really loving ‘One Foot in Front of the Other’ by Griff at the moment. It’s so catchy and always puts me in a good mood.
What’s next for you?
I hope to release an EP later this year or early next year. I’m currently working on a few songs for that so hopefully, it won’t be too long until it’s ready to go! I also can’t wait to get out and start performing more now that things are starting to open back up.
