Interview: The RnB scene’s newest talent Kane

Kane is a fresh and up coming R&B singer who has already been touted as the next Usher. At just 18 years old he has worked with award winning producer Harmony Samuels (Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Ariana Grande, Kelly Rowland), as well as co-writing with the acclaimed Sam Hook (Justin Bieber, Chris Brown and Mary J Blige). Kane recently released his new single, ‘Raindrops’ earlier this week and we believe he is one to watch.

How do you feel about being dubbed the young Usher?
Its crazy because that’s an artist I looked up to when I was young and to be compared to him is mad. I’m thankful.

How has Usher inspired you growing up?
I knew all his song when I was like 4 years old and wanted to dance like him. Another inspiration for me would have to be Michael Jackson as well, I would always be doing the moon walk.

So what made you want to take that leap and become a professional signer?
It was just being around my grandad when he was in the studio, it always interested me. I wanted to know how everything worked so I started getting into it more and developing when I was in secondary school.

Your music is heavily R&B influenced, do you see yourself in that R&B lane then?
Yeah I would say I am, but I’m not going to say I wouldn’t reach out to other genres. I don’t like to be boxed in.

What do you think of the R&B scene in the UK?
It’s alright nothing special at the moment, there’s not many artists out there right now. I think we need to build on it a bit more, that’s what I’m trying do, its getting there.

Tell us a bit about your new single Raindrops?
MarcusBeatz my producer came up with record. Its about a wide spread of females who feel shy to share emotion (cry, tell problems etc..) with a partner thinking they wouldn’t want to listen to them. I’m just trying to show ladies that there are guys out there that would take time out to listen and that not all guys are the same.

You have that great singing in the rain scene, was it hard filming?
It was kind of hard because the water was freezing cold. It was like the middle of January and we were in a warehouse with no heating trying to not look cold on camera. It was a fun experience though I would do it again.

You performed at DJ Cameo’s Summer Love Beach Festival in Ayia Napa what was that like?
It was crazy out there. It was great going out there and performing live at the boat party and at Summer Love where I gained new fans and being able to talk to them. I performed a variety of tracks, opening up with some hype ones and also performing stuff like ‘Raindrops’ was amazing.

What is an average day like in the life of Kane?
It depends, sometimes it’s crazy busy but most of the time it’s just studio.

In ten years’ time where do you see yourself?
In ten years time I would want to be successful, and still be with the people I love i.e. family and friends

Finally anything you’d like to tell the Flavourmag readers?
I’ve got a couple projects coming out that’s a surprise you’ll have to wait and see..
