Jermaine Jackson has filed legal papers in a bid to change his renowned last name.
The former Jackson 5 singer, submitted documents to a Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday (06Nov12) asking to have his surname altered to “Jacksun.”
Jackson’s friend Steve Dennis, who was speaking on the singer’s behalf, said it’s not unheard of for artists to change their names. “It is something he has chosen to do, and it’s fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you’ve got to blame it on the sunshine,” he said
In court papers, obtained by TMZ, Jermaine claims he wants to make the change for “artistic reasons”. The request has not yet been approved by a judge, but a future hearing has been scheduled.
