Josh Baker and Max Dean have spent years building separate empires in UK tech house. On Saturday 15 August they share a booth in London for the first time, for an extended set with no roof on it.
Back-to-backs get announced constantly and most of them are two DJs politely taking turns. This one is more interesting than that, because Baker and Dean come at the same genre from genuinely different angles and both have the crowd-reading instincts to make the overlap work.
Two approaches, one booth
Josh Baker built Hide&Seek into one of the more distinctive brands in British dance music on the back of groove: warm, rolling, patient sets that get a room moving without ever shouting. Max Dean runs neXup and works at higher voltage, harder and more immediate, the sort of DJ who can flip the temperature of a dancefloor in two records.
Put them on an extended set at an outdoor site that runs from mid-afternoon to 10pm, and you get room for both. There is space for Baker’s long build early on and space for Dean to take the handbrake off once the light starts going. Support is still to be announced.

Getting there
Magazine sits on Greenwich Peninsula, five minutes on foot from North Greenwich on the Jubilee line and under half an hour from central London. The same links that serve The O2 bring you straight to the door, with easy connections from London Bridge, Liverpool Street and Stratford. Why the setting matters here
Extended sets need a site that can hold your attention for the duration, and this is exactly what Magazine Open-Air has been built for. The stage was designed by Paris studio Matière Noire to work with the architecture around it, the sound has been engineered for balance across the whole dancefloor, and the seven-hour arc from afternoon sun to lit-up skyline gives a b2b of this kind somewhere to go.
Tickets are on sale now. A London first for two DJs who between them have played most of the rooms that matter, on a riverside site neither of them has played before.
