Kyla joins forces with DJ Paleface to release a cover of Aaliyah’s ‘At Your Best’, to commemorate the singer who died in 2001.

The funky house songtress, famed for her hit ‘Do You Mind’, has released a free download track to mark the death of RnB chart-topper Aaliyah. The 22 year olds life was cut-short when her plane crashed, on the way back fom shooting the video for ‘Rock The Boat’, over The Bahamas. Shaking the industry to its core, her passing is paid homage to every year by a host of artists and high profile figures; this year marks the 10th anniversary of the tragic accident.

Speaking about the cover, German-born Kyla explains exactly why she felt she had to commemorate the late actress/singer: “Aaliyah was one of my favourite artists. She had it all; she was stunningly beautiful and a truly talented singer and artist. She left behind musical legacy that will forever captivate me, I really wanted to mark the ten years since her passing with this tribute.”

BET have been paying homage to the late artist by airing a series of shows entitled ’25 Dys of Aaliyah’, in celebration of the stars life. On 25th August (the exact date of the fatal crash), the urban entertainment channel will finish with ‘Aaliyah: One In a Million, which will feature commentary from those who knew Aaliyah best and artists who wish to celebrate the life and legacy of the singer, including: Missy Elliot, Timberland, Kelly Rowland and Patti LaBelle.

Releasing her unique contribution, German-born Kyla is best known for the smash which topped the ‘MTV Base’ chart and peaked at No.4 on the channels Dance’ Chart in 2009. It was a huge success and preceeded ‘Daydreaming’, her second single which also gained both underground and commercial success. She is currently busy creating her album, due for release in 2012.
