Maintain your Kitchen Worktops Easily

For a while now in the kitchen design industry, it’s been widely acknowledged that quartz kitchen worktops are leading in the way in the market.

It’s not difficult to see why, quartz worktops come in an array of colours, textures and designs, and different slabs seem together almost flawlessly. Quartz also has non-porous characteristics that make them easy to clean and are hygienic, as they don’t house bacteria. They seem almost ‘indestructible’, as they are very hard to chip or even crack. However, it shouldn’t be taken for granted that they shouldn’t be looked after, as with any asset, they need to be maintained in order to preserve their lustre so that their value to a kitchen and home remains.

Here are some ways to ensure that your quartz worktop serves your home faithfully for years to come:

As already mentioned, quartz worktops are resistant to permanent staining but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t important to wipe up spills immediately before they dry. Treating spills with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive dishwashing detergent serves the purpose very well. For dried spills or heavy stains, a glass or surface cleaner, and a bit of elbow grease, they should regain their store-bought appearance.

Apart from knowing how to clean your quartz kitchen worktops, you need to know what not to do. Quartz is a resilient, hard-to-damage surface, but it doesn’t mean it’s not prone to unnecessary wear and tear. Ensure that where possible to keep the surface out of direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as this can fade the colour and finish.

Further, don’t ‘abuse’ your surface, feeling that now you have your quartz worktop, it should be able to withstand any punishment meted out to it. Quartz can take moderate amounts of heat for a good amount of time, or extreme heat for a very short amount of time but extreme heat for a good amount of time, it will damage the surface of even the hardiest of quartz worktops.

Do not cut into the surface, it is hard to chip or crack it, but it’s not impossible. Additionally, try your utmost to avoid dropping heavy objects onto the surface or knocking or rubbing items onto its edges. Again it’s not indestructible, and if you want it to remain intact and look presentable, you need to be good to it, as you would with any surface.

Keeping to these tips and rules will help ensure that you have a brilliant, lustrous and hard-working quart worktop for years to come, without the need to replace it or repair it at a heavy cost. A little bit of common sense can allow your quartz worktops to bring you over a decade, and much longer, of kitchen joy.
