Mazda MX-5 2.0 Review – The epitome of Mazda’s tagline Zoom-Zoom.

mazda mx5 review

We had the pleasure of test-driving the awesome new Mazda MX-5 2.0 litre convertible for 7 days.

At first glance, you’ll notice the Mazda MX-5 has more curves than Kim Kardashian West, more elegance than Kate Middleton, more brute force than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and gives you that Vin Diesel in Fast and Furious vibe.

The exterior of the Mazda MX5

The exterior is a masterpiece, with streamlined curves and lines, sleek and ultra-sexy. The Mazda MX-5 is a modern take on the classic MX-5, designed to make a statement.

Raise The Roof

Our adventure began with a drive down country lanes to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the ‘Raise The Roof’ event and the launch of the Mazda MX-5 RF. The event, set against the backdrop of live performances by a variety of bands and DJs, was the perfect introduction to the festival’s excitement. We saw live performances by Bassroots, Voodoo Love Orchestra, Mamas Gun, House Gospel Choir, Chainska Brassika and the Riot Jazz Brass Band. Hosted by Royal Organ Duo and DJ spinning the decks Lulu Le Vay, the Raise The Roof event was a welcome treat to the Goodwood Festival of speed.

Even the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits as we explored the festival, coming across another Mazda stand showcasing the latest models. Despite the weather, the fun never stopped.

Mazda MX-5 RF Review

The Red Pill or the Blue Pill?

Upon the MX-5’s arrival, we faced a Matrix moment – choosing between the red or blue pill, or in this case, the car. We chose red, of course. Despite my height, the MX-5 provided a comfortable fit, proving size isn’t everything.

The Mazda MX5, red or blue? you decide

Exterior Looks of Shock and Awe

Driving the MX-5 turns heads, with its go-kart-like handling, responsive steering, and easy-to-use gear shifts and pedals ensuring a smooth ride. But it’s hard not to drive fast in such a lightweight and nimble car.

Interior Comfort and Styling

The interior boasts clean lines, black leather seats with red stitching, a straightforward dashboard, and all the necessary features within easy reach. The heated seats are a bonus for cold mornings.

The Horses

Our test drive model, the 2.0 (160ps) 6-speed manual, impressively reached speeds and acceleration that belied its engine size, promising even more excitement with the upcoming MX-5 RF.

A Cost/Price Conversation with My Grandma

One of the MX-5’s best features is its affordability. A conversation with my grandma highlighted this, as she was amazed that such a beautiful and seemingly high-end car was available at a price comparable to standard vehicles.

Granda: Is that the new car you mentioned outside?
Me: Yes Nan, that’s the one.
Granda: Oh, isn’t it gorgeous, so beautiful, how much does it cost to buy?
Me: Under £25,000
Grandma: You’re joking. That’s the same price as a normal, standard car, that can’t be right?
Me: I know right, you’d assumed it costs a lot more.
Grandma: I think I want one (winks and smiles and walks off into the living-room).

The Mazda MX5 interior

The MX-5 is ideal for speed enthusiasts and convertible lovers alike, offering an easy-to-use drop-top perfect for sunny days. It’s a car that will have you praying for good weather to enjoy its full potential.
