Hey Mistajam, how are you my lovely!?
Not bad thank you. And thank you for noticing I am lovely!
So for that small minority that live in a box somewhere, briefly tell us about yourself and how you got in to music, radio etc?
Born, Loved Music, Started DJ’ing in a Youth club, Started to take it more seriously ,Worked my arse off for years , Put on events in Nottingham and got spotted by 1Xtra , Joined 1X in 2005, Joined R1 in 2008 ,Started Speakerbox in 2009, Present day. Phew!
Who were your biggest inspirations growing up?
Radio speaking, broadcasters like Trevor Nelson, Pete Tong, David Rodigan and John Peel. Musically, loads of people from DJ Premier to Daft Punk. Personally, my parents!
If you could do a set anywhere in the world where would you love to play?
I’m lucky enough to have played in so many places that I’ve always wanted to; from UK festivals such as Glastonbury to the US tour I did last year to playing in Malawi and Kenya. Of course, I love playing in the Balearics and am looking forward to playing at BCM in Mallorca this year by far!
For those that are looking at a career in music whether it be singing, rapping, Djing, radio. Whats the most valuable advise you have received and would like to pass on?
Practice, practice, practice
So the suns out, looks like summer will make an appearance over here where can we catch you?
Loads of places! I’ve got about 20 festivals in the diary including Speakerbox stages at EDC, London; Creamfields, Isle of Wight Festival and Boardmasters. This summer will be VERY busy!
…And overseas?
I’m in Ibiza a few times at Ibiza Rocks, Amnesia and for my August residency every Tuesday in August with both Space in the evening and Sands during the day. Plus I’ll be at Hideout Festival in Croatia and I’m at Global Gathering Belarus.
Of course you’ll be at BCM Plant Dance, for those who have never been to Magaluf, what can they expect and what can they expect from Speakerbox?
One of the best nights of their lives in one of the best clubs in the world! The line ups we have this year are second to none and I’m lucky to have so many of my friends playing. It’s going to be immense!
