As a newly established model Carmen has worked, 2 years running for the Urban Music Awards. Carmen has also been featured in videos for the likes of Goodfellaz, Megaman, Sway, Mr Midas and Donaeo. Here she talks one on one with Flavour about her career so far.
How did you break into the world of modelling?
I honestly don’t think I have broken into the modelling world as yet, there’s still a whole lot more that I need to do until I can say I have. But initially, I am a singer and dancer by trade. I was taught street dance by Kat B from MTV Base at my local youth centre. I also performed at the Choice FM weekender years ago in a talent competition.
What is your much loved shoot so far?
I did a shoot just the other day in my house which was really cool. I have never done a photo shoot in my own home before and now that I have, I want to do it again. This shoot was really exciting as these pictures are specifically for an American Magazine, I’ll keep you posted on the release of it!
What is your daily fitness regime?
I don’t really have one. Although I do tend to do my Tae Bo workout at least 4 times a week and i do a lot of walking on a daily basis. I’m not a health fanatic so I don’t watch the calories I just eat in moderation.
How do you keep your hair sleek?
Regular visits to my hair salon! Without my stylist my hair would be lost. I do always keep my hair fully nourished, in other words greased and tie it down most nights. It is important that my hair is given a lot of attention as in this business you find you are in and out of weaves, hair extensions, wigs etc and if not taken care of your hair can easily break and fall out and that would not be nice.
You are featured in “Real Black Women” inspired by Black Vogue can you tell me some inside beauty tips?
Beauty tips for all black women are to firstly always moisture your skin and massage your face this will help you to keep that young feel and look to your face. I tend to just wear powder on occasions as it makes my face and skin feel much lighter and more able to breathe. Natural lip gloss is a must as well as natural coloured eye shadows such as brown, beige, pink and gold or white eye dust, which I tend to always apply underneath my eyebrows. I use brown pencil on my eyebrows to enhance definition but to avoid making my face look too rigid and witch like. In the evening I love to wear fake eyelashes, but avoid the ones that look like wings on my eyes. I. Always wash your make-up off before bed and don’t forget to cleanse.
What are you wearing this autumn?
This autumn I’ll be wearing all the latest boots, skinny jeans and Macs. I love big jumpers as well as leather jackets with the fur.
What’s your next move?
There are quite a few things in the pipeline, one of which is my 2010 calendar which is due to launch in October/November 2009. I am also working on the pilot for Carmen’s Close-ups which is also exciting. I will be going to NYC in 2010 for 3 months to work with a top agent. I am very excited! So in the mean while I am working very hard in the UK until then.
