Nas Announces O2 Gig with Ticket Proceeds Going Towards the Amy Winehouse Foundation

After three sell-out London shows, multi-platinum recording artist Nas will be back in the UK on March 19, 2013 to take over London’s O2 Arena with support in the form of hip hop’s youngest rising star, Meek Mill. This will be the first time both artists have performed at the world famous venue. Real hip hop is set to take over the O2 and it’s sure to be the hottest ticket in town.

He recently released his top 10 UK album, ‘Life Is Good’ and demand is high for New York rapper Nas. The album marks his sixth number one album in the US and has spawned his current single ‘Cherry Wine’ which features Nas’ personal friend, Amy Winehouse.

The two were born on the same day, ten years apart and this contributed to the special friendship they shared, with Nas describing Amy as a sister. It was this friendship that led Nas to make the decision to donate £1 from every ticket sold, to the Amy Winehouse Foundation – set up in Amy’s memory to support charitable activities in both the UK and abroad.

Mitch Winehouse has said: ‘Nas has announced that £1 from every ticket sold for his London concert taking place at The O2 on 19th March 2013 will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Amy and Nas had a special relationship and he will also be at our New York Gala event on 21st March 2013. The donation of £1 per ticket will help us continue our support of disadvantaged young people, and we at the Foundation very much appreciate this magnificent gesture.’

Fans and DJ’s have supported ‘Life Is Good’. BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra playlist tracks from the album and there has been rave reviews coming from newspaper critics and respected DJ’s alike. BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ MistaJam says, ‘Nas is without doubt one of the greatest emcees of all time. Being the first person to play ‘Reach Out’ from Life Is Good and get to interview him on my radio show was a moment for me as I’ve been a Nas fan since the age of 10. I think that moment will be surpassed when I get to see him body the O2 stage. It will be a true moment to behold for any true hip-hop fan.’

As an incredible bonus, Nas will be supported on the night by new rising star Meek Mill. He will perform hits from his debut album ‘Dreams and Nightmares’ – released in the US on October 30.

Meek Mill is the latest star export from America – he has collaborated withMariah CareyDrakeMac Miller and Trey Songz and was signed by Rick Ross.

Meek’s U.S tour sold out in under a week with his mixtape ‘Dreamchasers 2‘ being downloaded over 3.2million times to date. He has had over 21 million hits on his YouTube channel.
