THE GUVNORS

Mitch (Doug Allen) was once part of a legendary South East London firm, where football hooliganism was just part of life, casual violence and intimidation was all he lived for. Now, many years on, he is happily married, living a life of suited and booted normality in suburban London after turning his back on that life. Unfortunate for him that is until Adam (Harley Sylvester of UK hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks), the leader of a gang of youthful thugs from a London Housing estate, is put in his place by the godfather of the once notorious “Guvnors” Mickey (David Essex), by giving him a much deserved slap. This one little incident starts the spiral of violent revenge as the aging Guvnors reform in order to take out this jumped up little upstart. It’s a fight to the death as both sides set out to prove which gang is really the top dog of the manor, no matter what the cost.

IF I STAY

All Mia Hall (Chloe Grace Moretz) had to think about was should she pursue her musical dreams at Juilliard or follow a different path to be with the love of her life, Adam (Jamie Blackley). But what should have been a carefree family drive changes everything in an instant, and now her life hangs in the balance. Caught between life and death for one revealing day, Mia has only one decision left, which will not only decide her future but her ultimate fate.

Chloe Grace Moretz maybe growing into a fine young actress with her flawless, powerful performance in this supernatural dilemma between life and death but will that saves a story which is fairly contrived teen flick? Sentimental, Maudling and full of mushy love stuff it could just turn your stomach. You may feel you’ve just seen the teenage version of Ghost.

LET’S BE COPS

When two struggling pals, Ryan (Jake Johnson) and Justin (Damon Wayans Jr.) dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighbourhood sensations. But when these newly-minted “heroes” get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line.

The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the cast was “How many damn Wayan’s are there in this acting world?” If you’re familiar with the rest of the Wayan’s clan’s acting work then you should be pretty clued up on this film. It’s just pure silliness. There’s tons of chemistry between the cast but quite frankly we’ve seen this film in many forms time and time and time and time again. It gets a bit stale.

NIGHT MOVES

Three environmentalists’ home grown plot to blow up a controversial dam unravels into a journey of doubt, paranoia and unintended consequences. As organic farmer Josh (Jesse Eisenberg), high society dropout Dena (Dakota Fanning) and ex-Marine Harmon (Peter Sarsgaad) plan, carry out and then witness the fallout of an attention-grabbing act of sabotage, they find their own personal limits tested.
This is one of those drama/thrillers which is completely driven by its characters, its thought provoking, and gripping throughout but being a bit too drawn out and messy towards the end of the film is a major let down. If you don’t want to leave the cinema with a bit of a headache, this isn’t for you.
