New Movies Coming Out This Week 15th May

Mad Max Fury Road - Tom hardy jumping fire

I’m Zehra Phelan, Flavourmag’s resident Film Editor and Entertainment Journalist, each week I bring you my weekly roundup of New Movies Coming Out This Week.

This week we have a return to the 80’s cult classic Mad Max, a return of the Belle’s in Pitch Perfect 2, a right royal romantic comedy in A Royal Night Out and a surprising outing from Kirsten Stewart in Clouds of Sils Maria.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) is a road warrior; haunted by his past Max believes the best way to survive is to wonder alone. That is of course until he finds himself caught up with a group of rebel females fleeing across the wasteland in a war rig driven by Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron). Escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe it’s not long before we see an irate Joe, after marshalling his gangs, pursue the rebels relentlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.

Mad Max Fury Road is certainly not for everyone and those who are big fans of this cult franchise will probably love it but for the rest of you, It’s just one long, exhausting film with no substance or backbone.

PITCH PERFECT 2

The Pitch Perfect girls are back, Unfortunate for them they are humiliated in front of the President of the United States of America leading to the Bella’s being are taken out of the Aca-Circuit. They won’t take this laying down as the vow to come back bigger and better than ever by winning an International competition no American team has ever won. With new friends and old rivals tagging along for the trip, the Bella’s can hopefully accomplish their dreams.

It is what it is; if you loved the first film you’re going to love the sequel too. The jokes are hilariously repetitive and the storyline simply but we have to say it’s certainly a stronger film than the first. We love a female driven film. GIRL-POWER!

A ROYAL NIGHT OUT

On V.E. Day in 1945, as peace extends across Europe, Princesses Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) and Margaret (Bel Powley) are allowed out to join the celebrations. It is a night full of excitement, danger and the first flutters of romance.

A Royal Night Out might get itself a little confused whether it is a drama or a comedy but it is charmingly entertaining.  Even though the some of the characters are based on our real monarchy don’t get this confused with a true story. It’s light and fluffy and with the likes of Rupert Everett and Jack Reynor bringing that British humour and eye candy this is a real feel good romantic comedy.

CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA

Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. Now she is being asked to step into the other role, that of the older Helena. A young Hollywood starlet (Chloe Grace Moretz) with a penchant for scandal is to take on the role of Sigrid, and Maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, face to face with an ambiguously charming woman who is, in essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.

The best part of this film is the performances from the three leading ladies, Binoche, Moretz and surprisingly Kirsten Stewart. Unfortunately the rest of this film, even though well written, is just a bit too self-indulgent and at times pretentious.
