THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

Hazel (Shailene Woodley) and Gus (Ansel Elgort) are two teenagers on the same life threatening journey, not only do they share a cutting with but also contempt for anything conventional, and a love that sweeps them on their journey. What makes their relationship even more extraordinary and miraculous is the fact that Hazel’s other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer support group.

Here we have another bestselling book adaptation, does the film do the book justice? A resounding yes is the cry. Not only does it ooze with humour, which coming from the tragic storyline is some doing, but it has so much heart you can feel the heart break. However, saying that it isn’t depressing in the slightest but really quite lively. Watch out for the star of the film Shailene Woodley, not only does her performance come across as effortless but it could well be worthy of an Oscar.

JERSEY BOYS

Four young men, Frankie Valli (John Lloyd Young), Bob Gaudio (Erich Bergen), Nick Massi (Michael Lomenda) and Tommy DeVito (Vincent Piazza), from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey come together to form one of the most iconic groups of the 60’s, The Four Seasons. Following their story from the birth of the group, through their trials and tribulations to the success we should all be only too aware off.

Directed by Clint Eastwood, with a soundtrack even some of the less musically savvy would have heard of, Jersey Boys has that real feel of nostalgia. With the odd bit of the narrative thrown in and being set in the 60’s it might give you a slight feel of a musical Goodfellas (obviously not in the storyline). It’s just one of those films that may just surprise you. A bit of a feel good film that (if you know their music) will make you want to sing along.

THE ART OF STEAL

After a seven year stretch in prison, thanks to the betrayal of his brother Nicky Calhoun (Matt Dillon), Crunch Calhoun (Kurt Russell) is released and takes on the job of a motorcycle stuntman/performer. Crunch, being slightly bored with life has an opportunity which see’s the payout over a million dollars for a job which consists of stealing a priceless historical book. Crunch decides to reform his old team to pull off his last heist.

Yet we see another Heist movie, it may have the odd comedic one liners and it is basically a silly caper of a movie, but with the old veterans of Kurt Russell, Matt Dillon and Terence Stamp bringing it all together. It may not be as classy or intelligent as the likes of Ocean’s 11 but it has enthusiasm, not a classic Heist movie but you might just enjoy it all the same.
