Edge of Tomorrow

Planet Earth, in the not to distance future, an alien race has invaded and defeated the world’s military forces. Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) is one of those military officers’s, however he is inexperienced in combat, and however he is still deployed into combat against the dreaded alien’s. Within a few minutes of combat cage is killed but he finds himself in a time loop, repeating the same combat and getting killed. Is this his groundhog day? Each time Cage wakes up he trains a little more, learning to fight and getting better with each awakening. Teaming up Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) he could just be the one to save the world.

The special effects maybe gritty, highly convincing and at times rather exciting but can they save this from a tediously boring time loop storyline we’ve seen once too often in these sci-fi thrillers. Is Cruise getting to old for these kinds of high octane action movies? Yes. Have we seen his character before? Yes. Is he ever going to stop? I doubt it. There may have been a big budget for this movie but that doesn’t mean you’re going to come out the cinema feeling like you’ve seen something new. Entertaining? Yes. Worth your hard earned money? No.

A Million Ways To Die In The West

The year is 1882 in Arizona, Albert Stark (Seth McFarlane) is a cowardly sheep farmer. After Albert backs out of a gun fight his erratic girlfriend leaves him for another man. However, no sooner as he has cried into his drink a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town. As she helps him to overcome his cowardice they fall madly in love. Things are never that simply, it soon becomes apparent this siren is married, not only that but married to a notorious outlaw who soon comes looking for revenge. Is this the test he needs to find try out his new found courage?

Seth MacFarlane sure is greedy, not only does he direct this film but he has also produced, co-written and starred in this feature and brought along his film making buddies from Ted too. With a whole host of stars such as Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfriend, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman and Neil Patrick Harris. You are guaranteed a whole host of belly wrenching, crude humour with a whole lot of flinching in horror, if you were a fan of Ted; you’re going to love this. This may just be the comedy of the year.

Heaven Is For Real

Colton Burpo (Connor Corum) is a 4 year old boy, after experiencing a near death experience and claiming to have visited heaven this young boy’s life has changed forever. His father, Todd (Greg Kinnear) and Mother Sonja (Kelly Reilly) must find the courage to support their young son’s journey as he recounts things that have happened before his birth, things he possibly couldn’t know bringing into question the meaning of this whole event.

Heaven is for Real is based on a so called true story and adapted from the book of the same name from 2010. With a look and feel that this film should have been one of those “made for TV” films. A cast which is highly talented may have been put to waste. This storyline, which quite frankly, if you do not have a strong faith, will make you think “well that was a load of B******s”.
