The summer of film has really been a big disappointment to me this year, nearly each week I have high hopes we will have something really major we can all rave about and each week just provides yet another let down. So that being said take your pick out of either two comedy action thrillers, a pointless mess of a horror/thriller and an animation I think we have all seen before.

2Guns

Bobby (Washington) and Stig (Wahlberg), after a botched attempt at going undercover to infiltrate and take down a notorious drug’s cartel, find themselves on the run. There are just 2 little secrets that neither man knew about each other. One just happens to be a DEA agent and the other a naval intelligence officer. The plot follows these men fighting off the criminals while bickering like children.

2Guns is another action comedy full of explosive scenes and fast paced action, starring the veteran action man Denzel Washington and the diverse Mark Wahlberg. With the story revolving around these two great actors we can be pretty sure they will combine comedic one liner with the macho ego baiting and endless action to keep us fully encaged.

Kick Ass 2

Kick Ass 2 see’s the return of Mindy (Chloe Grace Moretz) but this time the Kick Ass crew seems to be growing. Since the first time round, there seems to be a new wave of insane bravery afoot. The new army of masked crusaders are led by Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carey), but these amateurs find themselves slightly out of their depth when the Red Mist hunts them down. This leads to only one thing; Mindy aka Hit girl joining forces and seems to be the only one that can take them down.

Seeing the return of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kick-Ass and Chloe Grace Moretz as hit girl this promises to deliver all the action, comedy and kick ass moves (see what I did there, yeah ok I’ll carry on) previously witnessed in the first movie but can it prove to be a sequel better than the original? We have a feeling it just may be the same old story unfolding itself before our very eyes, but hey guaranteed violence and entertainment. You probably won’t be disappointed.

Aftershock

During a night of wild partying, An American tourist and his friends are faced with a living hell as a massive earthquake hits the coastal town of Valparaiso, Chile. They soon find out that a prison in a neighbouring town has collapsed and the surviving criminals have broken free. What they witness next are horrendous scenes of looting, destruction, murder and even rape in their bid to escape to safety.

This Sci-Fi horror thriller stars Eli Roth but I do have to question why? Just from the trailer alone, I simply do not get this film. It just oozes mess. You seem to get the idea that the makers of the film just came up with a bunch of ideas, threw them into a pot and pulled out and randomly stuck them together but made sure there were lots of blood, gore and shocking violence. But hey if thats what your into feel free to go for it.

Planes

From the makers of Cars comes…. what for it…. Planes! A 3D action packed animated comedy adventure starring Dusty. Dusty isn’t just any normal plane, he has high hopes of becoming a high-flying racer, just a couple of small problems; he isn’t built for racing and guess what! He’s afraid of heights…. In his quest to take on the defending champ of the race circuit, Dusty enlists the help of a naval aviator who tests his courage and gives him the chance to go to heights he has never explored.

OK is it just me or does Disney seem to be releasing a new film every week, and with each film they just seem to be cashing in on a previous highly successful franchise? With the vocal cast of Dane Cook, Teri Hatcher, John Cleese and Val Kilmer you can expect the some old laugh’s we are used to from this film type after all this film is basically another Cars but they’ve titled it Planes and given the Cars wings.
