New releases in cinemas this week 8th November @filmmadzed

By the lack of any anticipated new films being released this you can’t help but wonder if any of the film industry actually wanted to follow in the footsteps of last week’s release of Thor. So if you plan on going to the cinema this weekend, don’t expect any to really fulfil your appetite.

Gravity

Dr Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a top notch engineer on her first ever shuttle mission into space, accompanied by veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney). What should have been a routine spacewalk quite rapidly turns into a major disaster when their shuttle, and there only mode of transport back to earth, is destroyed. All they have is each other, alone in space; will they ever make it back home?

Gravity is a science fiction space drama which has actually received an overwhelmingly positive reaction not from just the critics but the normal film going public. I’m afraid I’ll have to hold judgement until I’ve actually seen it. Visually it could be quite stunning being in 3D I would recommend seeing this in the IMAX to feel the full impact of this film. That paired with 2 big stars to such as Bullock and Clooney will certainly pull in the crowd but I can’t help but feel this film is going to be as dull as watching paint dry.

Love Tomorrow

When ex-ballet dancer, Eva (Cindy Jourdain), life takes a devastating twist her whole life is turned upside down. But with a chance meeting with the charismatic dancer, Oriel (Arionel Vargas) marks the start of a fragile friendship that could very well turn into something so much more meaningful.

Set within a 24 hour time frame, this romantic story for some may seem quite simply beautiful, moving from dance to story and back again seamlessly. With touches of colour of comedy spattered throughout the film this is a film art lover’s delight. However too much arty farty prancing around might make you actually nod off. Don’t get me wrong I’m a big lover of alternative film and love a diverse range of film but without a story that really grips I couldn’t think of a worse way to spend 80 minutes of my life. Avoid like the plague.

Seduced and Abandoned

Alec Baldwin teams up with Oscar nominated director James Toback in a bid to raise finance for their next big feature film. But there journey is far from troublesome and full of hilarious comedy. Moving between the director, star actor and financier the two players provide us with a genuinely unique look behind the scenes of one of the world’s most glamorous film festivals and unearths to the world the bitter sweet relationship the filmmakers have with Cannes and the film business in general.

This documentary style film may have been done to death but you can’t help but get sucked into the story of what really happens behind the scenes of the big screen. It’s not all big lights and glitter and with a large amount of humour thrown into the mix alongside the abundance of stars including Ryan Gosling, Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger, Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese all playing themselves, you may just find yourself being surprisingly entertained. This could well be one of those sneaky little films you end up loving.
