Olympic sprinter, Adam Gemili, today rose to a Twitter challenge from Confused.com’s new mascot, BRIAN the Robot, racing 100m to compare speeds in a Man vs Robot challenge which left Gemili pipped to the post by the robot.
BRIAN pipped the young sprinting star – who is tipped for success as he flies the flag for Britain at next month’s World Athletics Championships in Moscow and Rio 2016 Olympics – to the post as he clocked a speed of 10.1, piping Adam to the post who recorded 10.2.
The Man Vs Robot race took place at Gemili’s home training ground at Enfield’s Lee Valley and forms part of the sprinter’s training ahead of a busy summer on the tracks.
But will the additional training be enough to leave Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford trailing, following recent reports that the long jumper hopes to “cause a stir” in the British sprinting world by entering the qualifiers for the 100m at the World Athletics Championships.
Adam Gemili, speaking from the track at Enfield, said: “I’d heard BRIAN was fast, so when he tweeted me to propose a race I thought this could be fun, but also a great way to test myself as I embark on a really important and exciting summer sprinting for Great Britain. I hope I don’t have to face robots in Rio ! ”
