Paige Ashleigh Young : The UK’s next big female artist! @PaigeAYoung @JoeWa113r

Flavourmag’s Joe Waller caught up with the rising UK star for an EXCLUSIVE all areas chat. With some of the biggest and credible names in Music such as A$AP Rocky, Akon and many more all taking a liking to Paige, Flavourmag had to see what all the fuss was about.

Paige is a singer/songwriter born and bred in London. Since Sef Naqui of London Boy Entertainment discovered Paige in 2012 she has been making a name for herself here in the UK and across the pond in LA. She has recently been hitting the studio with some of the industries best and well respected songwriters/producers to work on her debut EP. We caught up with Paige to discuss her first release “Wait”, her debut EP “Paige by Paige” and what it’s like to already have some huge famous names as fans.

Hi Paige, how are you?
I’m very well, how are you??

We can see you have been extremely busy in the studio here in London and overseas in LA. How is your debut EP coming on?
Yeah it’s coming along very well, there’s a few things I need to finish off but I’m very excited for everyone to hear it!

Do you have a title for the EP yet?
We have a working title of “Paige by Paige” but I might change it, we’ll see!

You have had the opportunity to work with some of the hottest songwriters across the world such as The Stereo Types, Ben Harrison and Druski to name a few. To work with these writers is a huge opportunity for any musician. How did these opportunities come about?
Basically through my managers London Boy Entertainment, they hooked me up with everyone, they’ve got a lot of contacts so they got me in the studio with them. It was really good to work with such talented people for this EP.

Who would be the songwriter of your dreams that you would love to work with? (Dead or alive)
It would have to be Michael Jackson if it was anyone, but I’m really loving Lorde at the moment, but as it’s ‘dead or alive’ it would have to be MJ

What is your studio vibe like? How do you prepare for a writing session or a studio session?
It depends really, usually if I’m writing with someone they’ll ever have a beat ready and we’ll take it from there or we’ll talk about some ideas and start from scratch. I always have fun in the studio but I always make sure I come out with something I’m happy with after every session. Always a lot of Pizza!!

What can fans expect from your debut EP? Any famous features?
You’ll have to get the EP to find out, we’ve been working on some collabs with really cool people, but you’ll have to wait and see.

You have recently worked with Borgore and featured on his latest release “Wild Out”. How did that come about?
We were in the same studio in LA and he heard me singing. He popped in and said he wanted to put me on the track… and the rest is history.

What was it like working with Borgore?
Borgore is hilarious! He’s got an amazing energy, he really knows what he wants and how to get it! I worked with Wacka Flocka Flame for that track too, I love him, he’s like a big brother to me, so much banter! When I was performing with him on stage, he really boosts my confidence and we had so much fun!

We have heard that you have been causing quite a stir overseas and have gained some famous fans in A$AP Rocky, Akon and many more. How does it feel to know such credible individuals in the music game are fans of you and your work?
It’s really surreal for me to hear that these guys have heard my stuff and know who I am. I hope I get to meet them and get it all started real soon. They’re all really talented people, obviously.

You first solo offering is “Wait” which has been produced by Noslen Sivad. How did you decide what track to release first? How did you decided that “Wait” was the right one?
I knew straight away after we’d recorded ‘Wait’ – actually that was the worst session of my life. I got to the Us with absolutely no sleep, I was actually so sick after not sleeping for 24 hours, I called my sister like “I feel so ill, I don’t know what to do” then recorded this song, it was the first record I did on that trip and it was my favourite! After my manager heard it, he said the trip was basically done!

How has the feedback for “Wait” been so far?
The feedback has been good, it seems as if people are loving it I can’t wait to do some live sessions of it to show people what I’m about!

“Wait” has a strong beat with catchy lyrics and slick vocals. Is the rest of the EP similar or does every track have a different vibe to it?
The rest of the EP is quite similar but each song has it’s own vibe. I try to write catchy songs and sometimes tracks with a bit of a gritty feel, a bit more sex-appeal.

Do you know what your second release will be?
I’m not 100% yet, there’s two tracks form the EP that we’re looking at.

Who inspired you musically growing up?
Michael Jackson mainly, also when I was a bit younger I used to sing Christina Aguilera in the shower! And like any girl my age, the Spice Girls when I was really young. Haha! That was the first concert I ever went to, but obviously as I’ve grown up a bit I’m loving Beyoncé, Rihanna all the edgier urban side of pop

Who inspires you now in the charts?
As I said I love Lorde at the moment, she’s really bringing something new to the table and it’s great!

What does the rest of 2014 hold for Paige?
More recording, live sessions and hopefully some cool collabs!

Can you give us a Paige Ashleigh Young, Flavourmag EXCLUSIVE?
I’ve never really told anyone about that “Wait” session with me crying in the toilet and being really ill, that was the worst!

With her edgy lyrics, sick vocals, exciting style and stunning looks Paige has already got us on the edge of our seats here at Flavourmag. We can’t wait for the EP and to see what’s next from her. Don’t forget to let us know your thoughts. As always make sure you follow us @Flavourmag on Twitter and @PaigeAYoung.
