Australia’s own mysterious gypsy Jamie-Lee Dimes has joined forces with engineer and producer Callum Barter (Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett, Dirty Three) at Melbourne’s New Market studios.

The result is Dime’s debut release, powerful mini-album ‘Liminality’, featuring guitarist Daniel Hallpike (The Grand Rapids, Our Mountain). The opening track ‘Trouble’ begins with brooding beats and possessive strings that draw in and accentuate Dimes’ anthemic vocals, making it a prime first single selection.

Liminality’ was awoken in the Mojave Desert over the summer period, in a cabin where Dimes settled into her pop up music studio. Given fire from her experience relocating to New York City in order to attend a dance school on Broadway, Dimes explains,

“This new project was inspired by my experiences over the last four years. I feel as though I have come through something that in turn has allowed me to grow, and be inspired to produce something that is connected to who I am as an artist.”

Liminality’ instantly directs its listener to another realm of existence, which is both ominous yet rousing. Being recorded live adds to the authenticity of its sound and the theme of ‘transition’ and the journey between spaces which is Liminality.

The mini album was produced through layering the songs with a grand piano and violin mixed with reverb and noise to heighten the theme of disorientation.

Jamie-Lee Dimes will post up some national show dates, in the lead up to next year, when she will be doing an official USA tour at the end of March 2017.

Liminality: A psychological state in which ones identity dissolves and normal limits to thought, self understanding, and behavior are undone.
