Project Hail Mary Starring Ryan Gosling Arrives in Cinemas 19th March — See It First This Weekend

One of the most anticipated films of 2026 is almost here. Project Hail Mary — based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel and starring Ryan Gosling — opens in cinemas and IMAX everywhere on Wednesday 19th March. But if you want to see it before everyone else, preview screenings are running on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March.

The film follows Ryland Grace, a lone astronaut who wakes up on a spacecraft with no memory, no idea where he is, and a mission he’ll have to piece together himself. It’s the kind of science fiction that manages to be genuinely human — funny, emotional and tense in equal measure. The novel was loved by readers who don’t normally read sci-fi, which says something about how well the story works.

Ryan Gosling in Space

Gosling has taken on some varied roles over the years — from Ken in Barbie to Neil Armstrong in First Man. Project Hail Mary sits closer to the latter end of the spectrum: a physically and emotionally demanding performance in a story that largely relies on one person carrying the whole film. Based on the trailers and sneak peeks, he handles it.

The film is also being released in IMAX, and given the visual scope of what’s being shown in the trailers, that’s worth the extra few pounds. Space looks better on a proper screen.
