Spending Valentines Day on an open top roof thermae spa with the one you love to revitalise, radiate and relax you both sounds like the perfect way to spend the most romantic day of the year to me.

My boyfriend and I headed to the Bath’s famous Thermae spa to experience the Twilight Package, which provides the opportunity to make use of the spa facilities and experience the gradual change in the light and atmosphere as you soak in the naturally heated water in the open air pool.

At £35, the Twilight Package includes three hours for the price of a 2 hour spa session, a light meal and a ‘house’ drink in the Springs Café & Restaurant. On arrival at the spa, the receptionist gave us a quick orientation and we were told about the three main areas and how to move about them and given our slippers, towels and dressing gowns. We then made our way to the changing areas which contained high tech lockers that we were given a wrist bands for that then locks your locker for you and programs the band to be able to open it later.

With four pools, a massage suite, four steam rooms, a treatment centre and a restaurant spread across five floors we decided to begin at the top and work our way down. It was freezing outside so our teeth chattered as we tossed off our dressing gowns and entered the naturally heated roof top pool that contains 42 different minerals.  Steam rises from the pool and as soon as we entered the warmth of the water we forgot completely how cold it was outside. There were lots of our couples or groups of friends in the pool but its so large and the scenery is so beautiful that you don’t really notice.

Once we’d finished there we made our way down to the second floor, where four pod-like steam rooms emitted different essential-oil-infused vapours. I actually fell asleep  on a stone bench as I  inhaled the air in the eucalyptus room as I was feeling so relaxed. It’s advisable to take a bottle of water into the steam room with you as it does get hot or leave the chamber to get some air. Once we’d experienced all the pods we made our way down to the Minerva Pool, to wallow effortlessly in this indoor space with whirlpools, neck massage jets and floats and loungers.

After all that relaxing we’d worked up an appetite so  we made our way in our dressing gowns to The Springs Café Restaurant, a beautiful dining area that combines beautiful Georgian architecture with classic, contemporary style. After we ate we showered and made away home feeling fully relaxed after our evening of bliss.
