The beloved ogre returns with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz—and Zendaya joins as Shrek’s daughter Felicia.
It’s really happening. DreamWorks Animation has dropped the first teaser for Shrek 5, confirming the long-awaited return of everyone’s favourite misunderstood ogre—and bringing with it a new generation of swamp-dwelling chaos. Set for release on June 30, 2027, the film reunites comedy legends Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz in their signature roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona, while Emmy winner Zendaya steps into the franchise as Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s daughter.
A franchise built on irreverence
For over two decades, the Shrek films have charmed audiences with their sharp wit, fairytale satire and a heart that’s always been bigger than the ogre’s infamous first impression. Since the original Shrek won the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2001, the franchise has racked up more than $2.9 billion worldwide, spawned a Tony-nominated Broadway musical, and became a permanent fixture in pop culture. Beauty, as the films remind us, really is in the eye of the beholder.
Joining Zendaya in the next chapter are Marcello Hernandez (Saturday Night Live) and Skyler Gisondo (Booksmart), voicing Felicia’s brothers Fergus and Farkle. Behind the camera are Shrek veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn—Vernon co-directed the Oscar-nominated Shrek 2 and has voiced fan-favourite Gingy across the franchise, while Dohrn worked on the second, third and fourth films and directed the Trolls sequels. Producing duties fall to Gina Shay, who produced Shrek Forever After, alongside Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri. Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru) co-directs.
Where to watch
The teaser is live now and ready to share. Shrek 5 hits cinemas exclusively on June 30, 2027—mark your calendars, because this is one swamp reunion you won’t want to miss.
