Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) has announced a two-day event, SOUND + VISION, a special convergence of film and music hosted in partnership with Summerhall and their local music night ‘Nothing Ever Happens Here’.

Taking place in the spectacular setting of Summerhall courtyard on June 17th and 18th , it is the latest addition to a packed programme that promises much for music fans. Niall McCann’s LOST IN FRANCE and Chris and Paul Weitz’s ABOUT A BOY will screen on successive days, with both films preceded by performances from the likes of FOUND, Admiral Fallow, and Badly Drawn Boy. Day one will see a screening of Chemikal Underground documentary LOST IN FRANCE, following the journey of several artists from the infamous label’s books as they return to play a venue in France, the site of their early career breakthroughs, whilst reminiscing over the label’s success. Local experimental pop collective FOUND will take to the stage beforehand, performing alongside Phantom Band’s Rick Redbeard; Holy Mountain, whose music punctuates the soundtrack, while Miaoux Miaoux’s Julian Corrie is set to take to the decks for DJ duties. Day two will culminate with a special screening of the enduringly popular ABOUT A BOY starring Hugh Grant, Toni Collette, and a young Nicholas Hoult. Badly Drawn Boy, the singer songwriter who provided the film’s iconic soundtrack, will headline an almost full day of stunning live music preceding the film. He will be joined on the bill by Admiral Fallow; folk-pop act Randolph’s Leap and Glasgow’s all-girl Teen Canteen.

The Festival already has much to excite music fans, with the World Premiere of LOST IN FRANCE – taking place the night before the Sound + Vision screening – set to be one of the highlights of the Festival. A host of the label’s stars and friends will attend the World Premiere screening, with the likes of Chemikal Underground label head Stewart Henderson; his former bandmates Emma Pollock and Paul Savage of The Delgados; and Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos all expected to be in attendance on June 16th . Other highly-anticipated hits for the musically-minded on the Festival’s eclectic line-up musically-minded on the Festival’s eclectic line-up include: the World Premieres of Benjamin Turner’s Ibiza-set club-themed thriller WHITE ISLAND and Philip John’s MOON DOGS, a coming-of-age road trip beautifully soundtracked by The Brian Jonestown Massacre founder Anton Newcombe.

There are European Premieres of GARY NUMAN: ANDROID IN LA LA LAND, delving into the troubled life of the 1970s electro-music superstar; and Bahman Ghobadi’s A FLAG WITHOUT A COUNTRY, a powerful docu-drama starring Kurdish pop-star Helly Luv. UK Premieres arrive in the form of Kim Sang-chan’s eccentric KARAOKE CRAZIES; and mermaid musical THE LURE from director Agnieszka Smoczyńska. There are also screenings of Jean-Jacques Beiniex’s ultra-cool 1981 Cinema du look classic DIVA, and Nagisa Ôshima’s MERRY CHRISTMAS, MR. LAWRENCE, starring David Bowie and the winner of a BAFTA for Ryuichi Sakamoto’s poignant score.

Audiences of all ages are also invited to the Festival Theatre Edinburgh for the hugelyanticipated UK Premiere of the spellbinding live version of Steven Spielberg’s Oscar©-winning E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL accompanied by John Williams’ iconic score performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. While fans will surely struggle to avoid breaking into song for the special dance-along screening of GREASE as part of the free outdoor screenings in St Andrew Square Gardens, which also includes box-office hits PITCH PERFECT and THE MUPPETS.
