Style Hunter

We commonly associate fashion with celebrity culture and off-the-runway style, but we can forget that fashion is a form of expression any ordinary person can acquire. So here at Flavour, we took our top style hunters to the streets in search of those fashionistas who stand out from the crowd with there certain ‘je ne sais quoi’, while incorporating this season’s hottest trends…

Colour
This season, bright is definitely and defiantly beautiful. The only rule? Go as bold as you dare! Fashion/music blogger Amrita Singh (above) does just that and teams a vibrant orange COS dress with an Emporio Armani bag and Vivienne Westwood pumps for a simple touch of ladylike elegance you can’t ignore.

Biker
Biker chic is back this season – and with a twist! So to accommodate the spring/summer theme, look out for leather jackets available in an assortment of colours. Also keep an eye out for detail, such as zipped motorcycle jacket sleeves, the quilted effect, and the trench coat-style jacket. English student Alice Wagstaff Sherwood, 21, (above, left) goes for a vintage leather jacket, with a Guess Watch, Topshop bag and jewellery. While sales Assistant Temi-la Johnson (above, right) teams a rustic-red vintage leather jacket with 80s-inspired tailoring from Tartelette, statement jewellery and a topknot bun – one of our favourite hairstyles of the season!

Denim
From ice-cream hues to slouchy shorts, the new range of denim is having its moment this season – but one thing you can’t forget is that double denim is a fashion no-no!

Photographer Louise Robinson, 22, (above) is setting the scene with a denim utility suit from Zara.

Pretty
Indulge your girlie side with flowers, ruffles, lace and silk to get into the summer spirit. Fashion Student Teresa Gomez, 19, (above) matches a floral Topshop dress with a bleached denim jacket, which takes over the leather jacket trend we saw dominating the past few seasons. Investing in a denim jacket is well worth your money, as it’s versatile enough to be worn over a floaty dress during the day or with a mini, tights and heels for evening.

1970’s
From disco diva to hippie chic, spring is a retro-a-go-go: playsuits, jumpsuits, maxi dresses and tapered trousers are all key pieces. 70s glam is set to take over the summer, whether it’s at the office or after-hours cocktails. Style icon of the era Bianca Jagger first embraced this look during her Studio 54 days in slinky metallic gowns, embellished head pieces and sky-high platforms. Fashion merchandiser Mary-Anne Odonoghue, 25, (above) wears a vibrant vintage maxi dress from Madam Popoff.

Statement Jewellery
Designers have created lots of statement jewellery for this season: huge, colourful and unusual pieces to remember! They’re made to stand out rather than just complement outfits, so don’t be shy. Oversized bracelets, extra-long and big earrings, extravagant necklaces for spring/summer 2011. Student Freda Kwakye, 21, (above) dresses up a simple black outfit with Topshop statement necklace and earrings and ring that will get you noticed.
