Fall is definitely upon us, and while not as big a party season as winter, there are usually some great social occasions to look forward to as the nights start getting longer.
Whether you are going to a glamorous Thanksgiving feast or a beautiful fall wedding, you’ll want to make sure you are wearing fall 2015’s hottest colours whenever you step out for a formal occasion this season, so here are some of the best colours, as recommended by Pantone, for your fall 2015 evening dresses, cocktail dresses, bridesmaid dresses and other formal attire!
Amethyst
Jewel colours often make for good fall and winter colours, as they have a depth and richness that really suits the season. This season’s hottest gem colour is amethyst, as shown by Pantone’s ‘amethyst orchid’ shade, which is a beautiful cool purple. This pretty, feminine colour looks beautiful in shimmery fabrics like satin and taffeta, and so it really lends itself to formal dresses. It suits almost all skin tones, too, so it is surprisingly easy to wear for a purple.
Teal
Another great shade to wear if you prefer your formal dresses on the colourful side is teal. The ‘Biscay Bay’ shade in Pantone’s fall 2015 palette is a beautiful petrol blue which looks stunning in all kinds of luxury fabrics, from silk to lace, and will give your formal dresses this season a true high fashion edge. This is also a very nice colour for bridesmaid dresses, so if you are having a fall 2015 wedding and are leaving it late to pick out the bridesmaid outfits, you may well want to take your cue from this stunning shade.
Marsala
Marsala, a rich red hue that takes its name from the equally rich Marsala wine, was named colour of the year for 2015, and is as key to the fall palette as it was to those for spring and summer this year. It is a really wearable, elegant way to wear red that suits women of all ages, and works well with almost all colourings. Marsala looks great in opulent velvet as well as other formal wear mainstays like taffeta and silk, and with it being this year’s colour motif, you’ll be able to keep wearing it into the winter season, making those fall dresses equally perfect for holiday parties!
Buff
If neutrals are more your thing, Pantone’s ‘oak buff’ may be a great choice for your formal clothing this season. It is more of a fawn than a flesh colour, so you don’t need to worry about that weird ‘looking naked from a distance’ effect you can get with some buff shades, and it is surprisingly flattering even on very pale skin.
