The Fallen Stars Of 2012

From music legends Whitney Houston and Etta James to actor Michael Duncan Clarke and filmmaker Tony Scott, the world mourned the loss of many icons in 2012. Here we look back at some of the few who are no longer with us…

Grammy-winning singer Whitney Houston died on Feb. 11, of accidental drowning. Her untimely death saw a landslide of tributes from fellow muscians and fans across the world. She was 48.

 

Jazz and R&B legend Etta James died on Jan. 25,  of complications from leukemia. James is best known for a number of hits including ‘At Last,’ and ‘Something’s Got a Hold on Me’.  She was 73.

Bee Gees co-founder Robin Gibb died on May 20,  following a long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. He was 62.

The five-time Grammy winner Donna Summer, queen of disco, died of cancer on May 17, at the age of 63.

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan best known for his role in the blockbuster hit ‘The Green Mile’ died on Sept. 3, after suffering a heart attack. He was 54.

The British filmmaker Tony Scott well known for numerous smash hits including Top Gun and Taking Of Pelham 123, died from an suspected suicide at 68.

The rapper, Miss Melodie whose real name was Ramona Scott, passed away at the age of 43. A former member of the prominent group Boogie Down Productions, the pioneer went on to score a hit with ‘Live on Stage.’

Chuck Brown, the guitarist and singer, who was known as the godfather of funk music, died from multiple organ failure as a result of sepsis. He was 75. His various hits included “Bustin’ Loose” and “We Need Some Money.”

Reality TV star Sophia Brown was the second contestant to be evicted from Big Brother in 2009. She sadly passed away on May 17, aged 30.

Coronation Street star Bill Tarmey passed away in Tenerife on 9 November, aged 71. The actor was famed for his role as Jack Duckworth, which he played for 30 years until he retired in 2010.

 

Mexican-superstar Jenni River died aged 43 on 9 December when the plane she was travelling in crashed. She sold over 15 million albums as a Latin artist and also starred as a judge on Mexico’s talent show The Voice.
