Many confused and bewildered members of the public took to social media after seeing the twins playfully squabbling over a teddy bear, Oyster cards and even engaging in a very Victorian kickabout.

The sightings, at Finsbury Park tube station, Buckingham Palace and Hamley’s Toy Store, were later revealed to be an elaborate stunt to promote the film, which stars Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Chris O’Dowd, Ella Purnell and Samuel L. Jackson.

The costumes worn by the six year-old actors were the actual robes and masks featured in the film.
