@TimWestwood fired! @CharlieSloth hired!

BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper, today announced a number of changes to 1Xtra’s schedule which will see rising star Charlie Sloth take over the station’s weekday early evening show, while new signing Yasmin Evans joins the network to present the weekend Breakfast Show.

The station champions the best in urban music and has a pilot scheme as part of the station’s ongoing commitment to developing young new talent. Ben has said Westwood has proved to be ‘one of the most influential figures in UK hip hop’ and is excited to have him continue his hard work for 1Xtra.

Speaking about his new show Charlie said: ‘I’m very excited about being given the opportunity to speak to the nation for five days a week and for the faith put in me by the Radio 1Xtra team.’ Yasmin, 21 from Manchester said: ‘I’m incredibly excited and very thankful to get this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to get started!’

As part of the changes Tim Westwood gets a brand new Sunday show on 1Xtra from 7-9pm and he will continue to present his seminal Saturday night show, across Radio 1 and 1Xtra, which brings listeners all the latest hip hop news and sounds.

Although Tim Westwood has said: ‘It’s been a lot of fun and a great experience’, his Twitter page doesn’t seem to show he has taken the news too lightly and has even started a trending hash tag topic:

With a love for controversy, artist Lethal Bizzle jumped into the topic by stating that he will be replacing Westwood:

Continuing this ‘Lethal Bizzle 1Xtra Takeover’ wave, he later tweeted this making reference to Tulisa‘s leaked sex footage:

Some Westwood fans have taken to twitter to express how upset they are including grime artist JME who was baffled at the news:

Whilst some people have jumped on the trending topic to let others know how relieved they are:

Nobody can argue that Westwood is a legend and has entertained us for many years bringing us up to date with all the latest hip hop news, gossip, music and new talent. But as we all know, all good things must really come to an end and its time to hand over the throne to DJ Charlie Sloth, bringing in a new younger generation of listeners. We are excited!
