The Grammy Awards was a sombre occasion given the passing of the legend Whitney Houston on Saturday, the day before the award ceremony.

Hosting was LL Cool J who gave an emotional speech, before showing some clips highlighting Whitney’s career. Other celebrities also made tributes, such as the British-born Adele, who won all 6 of the nominations that she was voted for!

Alicia Keys performed on the night, but as a dedication to another amazing singer who also recently passed away, Etta James.

Chris Brown won the award for Best R&B album, whilst ex-Rihanna won nothing, surprising the masses. However the 2 of them both gave impressive performances.

Dubstep producer Skrillex won 3 out of 4 awards, bigging up the ‘Croydon dub guys’ in his speech.

The Young Money camp were left in the cold whilst Kanye West won 4 awards for his album ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ and 1 for ‘Otis’ which he of course shared with Jigga.

Jennifer Hudson performed ‘I Will Always Love You’ in tribute to Whitney Houston which left the room dead silent and brimming with emotion.

Amy Winehouse was not forgotten as she won a posthumous award for ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ along with Tony Bennett for their song ‘Body and Soul.’

Nicki Minaj also gave us the most controversial performance, performing new material by the name of ‘Roman Holiday’ and conducting a mock exorcism on stage. Religious viewers were not so impressed…

Another ceremony, another controversy.
