Fifteen years in, Soulection have become one of the few collectives that genuinely changed what a radio show could be. They mark the anniversary in London on Sunday 16 August, outdoors and on the river.
Soulection started as a sound and turned into a shorthand. Future-facing R&B, hip-hop and soulful electronic music, delivered with a warmth that made it feel less like a playlist and more like a community you had joined. Fifteen years of that gets a proper marker at Magazine Open-Air, spread across two spaces on the Greenwich Peninsula riverside at the height of summer.
Who is playing
Joe Kay leads it, as he has from the beginning, and the bill around him reaches across everything the collective has touched. Sango brings the Brazilian-influenced production that became one of Soulection’s signature sounds. DJ Tunez connects it to Afrobeats, Wayne Wonder brings decades of Jamaican vocal history, and D Double E supplies grime royalty on home turf.
Qendresa, Shaka Lion and Karen Nyame KG complete a line-up that makes sense as a single afternoon rather than a genre grab-bag. That is the Soulection trick and it has always been the point.

Magazine sits on Greenwich Peninsula, five minutes on foot from North Greenwich on the Jubilee line and under half an hour from central London. The same links that serve The O2 bring you straight to the door, with easy connections from London Bridge, Liverpool Street and Stratford. A Sunday built for it
Of all six shows in the series, this is the one whose music most suits the setting. Soulection’s whole register is warmth, rhythm and community, and an afternoon that starts in sunshine and ends with the London skyline lit across the water is about as good a room as that music could ask for. Food comes from Shapes Bar, Mangal II and London independents, and the show runs across two spaces on site.
Tickets are on sale now. Fifteen years is a long time for any collective to stay relevant. Soulection have managed it by never standing still, and this is the London celebration.
