BBC 1Xtra supported grime and hip-hop artist K.Y has announced the release of his newest EP Nothing But Truth: Part 2the follow up to Part 1 which achieved #29 in the iTunes hip-hop chartsInspired by a difficult year, the EP discusses some troubling life experiences.

Hailing from Leicester, a city with a bubbling urban scene, K.Y spent his adolescence listening to hip-hop, garage and grime and influences of British urban acts such as Kano, Dizzy Rascal, Wiley and Chipmunk can be heard fused with American hip-hop greats such as Eminem and Biggie Smalls. Already achieving some great success since pursuing his music career from 2008 performing at Glastonbury Festival and national airplay from the likes of Charlie Sloth, K.Y has made a name for himself particularly around Leicester as an established and creative urban act.

His newest release Nothing But Truth: Part 2 was recorded at K.Y‘s own studio MIDM studio, and was inspired by life situations over the past 12 months after his little brother encountered issues with the police and K.Y lost his closest cousin. His passion for music gave him something to focus on through these challenging times, hoping to inspire kids from difficult backgrounds to believe they can achieve more out of life by working hard in whatever area they choose – and the end goal to make his family and friends proud. After being faced with issues with the police himself, K.Y is more determined than ever to chase his dream.
