Sizzling it up with Carmen Leigh

Carmen has already released her very first single ‘Dance’ this year and has also received a lot of support for her forthcoming single ‘Crazy’ on Radio 1XTRA, Choice FM and many other UK radio stations. As a previous performer for Flavour Live we couldn’t wait for a little Q&A session with this sizzling songstress.

How long have you been singing for?

I’ve been singing since I was a very young girl, probably from the age of 3 or 4, and I am now ready to work on my  own material and show the world that I have a  voice to be reckoned with. Having already teamed up with the likes of Flip Mode Squad’s very own Rampage I know I am in the right direction

What are your musical inspirations?

Musically, I’m inspired by artists such as Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson, TLC and Destiny’s Child.

Explain your musical style using food as a metaphor.

My music is like Marmite with malteasers on the side. Either you love it or hate it but it’s definitely hard and edgy on the outside yet soft and crunchy in the centre lol.

Which artists are you feeling at the moment from the UK?

At the moment I really enjoy listening to Jessie J and Adele, their voices and music is just incredible, they are two very talented young women.

What do you least like about the music industry?

Like any industry, it disheartening to see how unsupportive the industry can be when you’re attempting to make your way up. Either way, the key thing is to not let it bother you and to just keep pushing.

If you had to go back in time and be a mega super star what era would you pick from the  60’s 70’s, 80’s and 90’s? And Why?

I would have to say the 90’s I’m an old skool junkie, I love the music that was brought out in the 90’s from Jagged Edge, Montell Jordan, TLC, Bobby Brown, Dru Hill, Mya, Mariah Carey, Joe etc….Those were the days when music was good and inspiring, those were the days when people actually went out and brought a CD, music support was at it’s highest then.

Tell us something that we wouldn’t expect of you?

I know quite a bit of sign language, enough to communicate with someone.

What can we expect from you in the New Year?

In the new year I will be releasing two more videos for my forthcoming singles ‘Dance Rmx’ featuring Wanda Kidd and ‘Crazy’ which has been a major hit so far.
